Spencer Memorial
installs seventh pastor
SIMC1A1 II) Mil c HR<INK I I
On Sunday. March 3. at 4
p.m.. Rev. Garland A. Wallace
Jr. was installed as the seventh
pastor of Spencer Memorial
Christian Church (Disciples of
Christ). The service was held at
Spencer Memorial's sister
church. Greater Cleveland
Avenue Christian Church.
The installation began with
the arrival of Wallace and his
family in a chauffeured white
limousine. Members of the
Search and Call Committee of
Spencer Memorial Christian
Church served as escorts for
Wallace and his family. A recep
tion followed the ceremony.
It was clear throughout the
day that the Lord had orches
trated this "marriage" between
Spencer Memorial and Pastor
Wallace. The number seven in
biblical terms means comple
tion. Spencer Memorial is now
complete! The church has
labored for more than two years
since the untimely death of Pas
tor Sandy Witherspoon Jr. in
February 2(XX). But the congre
gation stayed together, prayed
together and labored together to
find a new shepherd for the
church.
Dr. Edgar A. Wallace Jr. was
called as interim pastor in May
2001. He paved the way for the
arrival of Pastor Garland A.
Wallace Jr., who began his pas
torship in January 2002.
Pastor Sheldon McCarter of
Greater Cleveland Avenue
Christian Church delivered a
dynamic message. "Follow the
Leader." He encouraged the
members of Spencer to follow
our leader as he follows Christ.
God gives direction to the shep
herd, and we must follow his
guide. Rex Home, the Disciples
of Christ regional minister, per

he must fulfill. Since January,
