Obituaries ^^asley's Funeral Service 3001 Old Greensboro Road Winston-Salem, NC 27101 724-3444 H AMASON Mr. James Howard Amason (Peanut) was bom on Oct. 10. 1921, in Forsyth County to the late Robert and Ozeila H. Amason. James Amason quietly passed away on March 8 at Forsyth Medical Copter. He formerly resided at 625 W. Sixth Street, Apt. 11-D (Sunrise Tow ers). He retired from E.G. Forest Produce Co. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Amason, and his daughter, Diane Hairston. He leaves to cherish his memories: two devoted sons. Jackie (Sophia) L. Amason of Charlotte and Rufus B. Jefferson; two daugh ters, Kathleen D. Daniels of Charlotte and Judith P. Jefferson of the city: three brothers; two sisters; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchil dren: three great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The funeral was Held March 13 at 11 a.m. at Beasley's Funeral Chapel. Beasley's Funeral Service of Winston-Salem was in charge of services and arrangements. TATE Mr. John Tate Jr. of 1004 W. 13th Street, son of the late John Tate Sr. and Early Tatum Tate, was born in Forsyth County March 15,1925. He departed this life March 8. 2002, at the N.C. Baptist Medical Cen ter. His wife, Dorothy Mitchell, preceded him in death on Jan. 14. 2001. He leaves to cherish fond memories: two sons. Robert "Earl" Tate (Babette) of Milledgeville, Ga? Jonathan "Sam" Tate (Birdie) of Wal nut Cove, N.C.; daughters Sotaria "Terri" Fulp (Anthony) of the city. Angela Stewart (Victor) of Louisville, Ga? John Leecost Jr. went to rest with the Lord on March I. He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving mother. Interment fol ?" lowed in Evergreen Cemetery. Hooper Funeral Home directors were in charge of the arrangements. REVELS Mrs. Edna Cozzen Revels was bom on May 23. 1914. to C. Ross and Lottie Reynolds Cozzen. She died on March 11. 2002. at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home following a brief illness. Mrs. Revels was a highly respected educator, church and commu nity leader. She was a Gold Star member of First Baptist Church, where she served as church clerk for many years. Her entire life was church centered. She was active with the L.M. Banks Sunday school class, of which she was a longtime teacher; the Addie C. Morris Mis sionary Group; the Women's Progressive Club; the mid-week Bible study class and the seniors ministry. She was on the 2002 Steering Committee for the church's directory. Mrs. Revels received her bachelor of science degree from Brook lyn City College and her master's degree from Columbia University. Her training was extensive at other educational institutions She served as an adjunct inrtructor at N.C. Central University and Winston'-Salem State University. She retired from the Winston-Salem/Forsvth County School System after having served in many capacities in the class room. with the first program for children having sight protection needs, special education, reading programs and as the director/admin istrator of the Cmpqjltive Learning Program (COP), which intro duced many persons to the teaching profession through a new and innovative medium. Her community affiliations were vast. She was active with her sorority, Rho Zeta Chapter. Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc.; the JUNS Club; National Women of Achievement Inc.. Kemersville Chapter; the Book Club of Today; Leadership Winston-Salem; and the Mental Health Association, on whose board she served. Mrs. Revels was very active with several literacy groups and could be depended upon to tutor students in reading. She also was active with the Winston Salem/Forsyth County Retired Teachers Association. Mrs. Revels was the widow of Ollie N. Revels. Her parents also preceded her in death. Mrs. Revels is survived by a host of cousins, her church family, sorority sisters, her beloved JUNS Club, neighbors and many friends. Memorials are suggested for Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home or First Baptist Church. The funeral was held March 13 at 3:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church. Rev. Wendell Johnson officiated. Interment followed at Ever green Cemetery. JJ I Russell I Funeral Home 822 Carl Russell Ave. 722-3459 BRADSHAW Mr. Joseph Elton Bradshaw Jr., 715 Runnymede Lane in Raleigh, passed away March 2 at Duke Medical Center in Durham. He was bom to the late Joseph E. and Lucy Hyman Bradshaw on Feb. 7, 1954. "Joe Joe" grew up in Winston-Salem, attending local schools through the eighth grade. He attended St. Andrews Episcopal School in Sewanee, Tenn., graduating with honors. He graduated cum laude from Duke University and did graduate studies at UNC-Chapel Hill. He did his internship for the town of Chapel Hill. He was assistant county manager for Orange County, Alachua County. Fla.. Mecklen burg County and Greenville County. S.C. He was also assistant city manager in Gainesville, Fla. Throughout his career he was a member of the National City County Manager Association. Most recently he was a project director for the Raleigh Capital City Parking Co. As a child he attended Unit ed Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church and while in Greenville, S.C.. he attended St. Phillips Episcopal Church. He was a member of Beta Phi Zeta Fraternity and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. His parents preceded him in death. He is survived by: his sister. Cheryl (Don) Skipwith: two aunts. Maijorie "Mutt" Lowery of Winston-Salem and Johnsie Epps of Roo sevelt, N.Y.; an uncle, Earle Hyman: companions "Duke" and "K-dee" of Raleigh: many cousins and numerous friends. JENKINS Mrs. Susanna McLeod Jenkins. 3008 Colgate Drive. Winston Salem, passed away March 5 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was a native of Darlington. S.C.and was first lady of Miracle Temple Deliv erance Center, where her husband of 47 years. Elder Charlie Jenkins Jr.. is pastor. She was president of the Ministers Wives and Widows of Winston-Salem and was chairman of the Women's Auxiliary of the church. She was devoted homemaker. She is survived by: her husband. She attended and graduated from the Win ston-Salem/Forsyth County Public Schools She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church and a former member of the SBC Gospel Choir. She was an employee of the transportation department of Winston Salem/Forsyth County Schools. She was also a singer with the Phase Band. ROUNDTREE Mr. Samuel James Roundtree. 1620 Shadymount Ave.. Winston salem, passed assay on March 5 at Kate Bitting Reynolds Hospice Home. He was the son of the late Mrs. Cora Roundtree Martin and L. Ray Martin, bom in Chadbourn. N.C.. on May 8. 1932. Sam Roundtree. also affectionately known as "S.J.," "Rabbit" and "Tree," migrated to Winston-Salem with his mother and a few siblings in his youth. He attended the local public schools and completed his educa tion at Atkins High School in 1950. After high school, he married his high school sweetheart, the late Ruby Lee Roundtree. who preceded him in death on April 7. 1996. There were happily married for 44 years. To this union five children were bom. Their second son. Donald Ray Roundtree, preceded them in death in August of 1987. Being a family man. Samuel Roundtree began his working career at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., where he worked for 23 years before retiring on disability due to visual impairment. He was a faithful member of New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church. He was an active participant in the Senior Missionaries Cir cle, Senior Citizens Society. Wednesday Morning Prayer Meeting and other church organizations, which he thoroughly enjoyed. He thor oughly enjoyed his family and friends. His social organizations includ ed the Out-of-Sighters. the Winston-Salem Chapter of the N.C. Coun cil of the Blind and the Monday Night Fun Group. He leaves to' "celebrate" his life: two sons, Rodney James Roundtree Sr. (Pamela). Fredrick L. Roundtree: two daughters, Debo rah R. Dunbar and Karen D. Roundtree, all of Winston-Salem; a daughter-in-law.
