The convocation encom passed four power-packed days of dynamic preaching, tea'ching and instruction by wdjnen of distinction from around the state. Thursday night. Pastor Delores Taylor of Greater Emmanuel Word of Faith Christian Community in Win ? ston-Salem preached that "we must know who we are in CJiod." Friday morning we were < blessed in our seminar sessions with the spiritual and the prac 1 tital knowledge of our facilita tors, Leola Coston of Wilming ton, N.C.; Minister Mae Burn er, Tamarian Mclntyre, Mer cedes Miller and Pastor Delores Taylor, all of the city. Coston began the session with "The Battleground of the | Mind." She asked, "What are we thinking?" She said some times we suffer from TTS, Toxic Thought Syndrome, and that we are to let the mind of Christ be in us. She was followed by Burn er and Mclntyre, discussing Positive Parenting in the 21st Century. Burner, a teacher in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System, informed us of our rights aso parents and helped us under stand the new testing proce dures required by the state. Mclntyre. a counselor in the Department of Social Services, explained the importance of religion, the extended family, and cohesiveness to the well being of the child. Miller spoke to the single women through her seminar subject. "One Is a Whole Number." She stressed renew ing your mind, keeping your body healthy for ministry, remaining faithful and proper ly attending to the things of God. Our last seminar of the morning - "Women in Min istry: New Places of Spiritual Authority" with Pastor Delores Taylor- let us know we are worthy of the authority of Christ. Concluding our Friday services was Evangelist Bren da Buckrham of Hayes Memo rial United Holy Church in Greensboro. She challenged us to be available to God and to be empty vessels to be filled and poured into others. Saturday morning we shared in the passing of the torch, through covenant prayer by mother-daughter duos. Par ticipating in this spiritual pass ing from generation to genera tion were Minister Nina Old ham and {Jabrielle Oldham; Pastor Vera Feaster and Sophia Feaster, Mother Sarah Benton and Toni Fennell; Pastor Eve lyn Holland and Elaine Car raway; Pastor Yvonne Hines and Rebekah Hines, with the covenant blessing given by Pastor Hines. We were truly blessed by the impromptu Song "Amazing Grace" from Bren da, one of our guests from Hosanna House in Winston Salem. After the morning session we communed for a fellowship luncheon at Meta's Restaurant. The culmination of the convocation began with a powerful sermon of Evangelist Debra E. Sibley of Fresh Start Ministry in Greensboro, who expounded that to get the oil to flow, get out of your comfort zone. The climax or the convoca tion was Evangelist Juanita Hunter of St. Thomas Chapel Holiness Church in Summer field, N.C. Hunter lftt the thought-provoking message "For the overflow, what do I owe?" Before there can be an overflow, there must be a breaking. The women's convocation was also graced with liturgical dance by the Mount Sinai Dance Ministry; the singing group Ecclesia; the Mount Sinai Women's Chorale and the wonderful St. Thomas Chapel Men's Chorus. The coordinator of the women's department, Claudia Fuller, and her committee - Clarissa Felder, Yolanda Sanders, Shirley Davis and Tanya Tuttle - were most excellent in executing the vision from God for this con vocation.
