Barnett receives recognition gBCIAl 111 111! ( HKOMCLE Carrie Barnett was one of the individuals who received tribute at the "Women With a Mission" Awards Luncheon Oct. 19 at Ml. Zion Baptist Church, where Dr. Serenus T. Chum Sr. is pastor. Barnett serves as an usher at Mt. Zion and is the personifica tion of the scriptural words: "I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of the Lord." For more than 60 years she has been D a model of that Scripture. Bar nett has been a faithful member of Queens of Olympic Chapter 620. Order of the Eastern Star, and has been awarded an (hon orary Past Matron's Degree." 1 Sarah L. Barge, worthy matron of Queens of Olympic Chapter 620, attended the ban quet in support of Bamett. Galilee Missionary Baptist recognizes seniors, retirees SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE Galilee Missionary Baptist Church observed Seniors and ?c Retirees Day Nov. 10 at the 10:30 a.m. worship service. The purpose of the recognition day \v as to acknow ledge the seniors and retirees in the congregation for their dedication and service to the church. The\ sat in a body, and each was dressed in black and gold Attire. Each was presented a cor sage or boutonniere. Sara Barge. Seniors 80 years of age and older who are able to attend worship services were picked up for the service in a limousine courtesy of Hooper's Funeral Home, Nonagenarians (people in their 90s) of Galilee include Ztrla Barker. Pearlie Byrd, Ora Mae Rich. Ellabelle Howard and Castellu MeCloud. Octogenarians (people in their 80s) include: Joe Austin, Qeneva Ogtesby. Mack Jones, Jdmes Cauthen, Lanie Gary. Hattie Stover. Louise Burns, Amie Robinson. Lena Hayne. Rozell Collins, Johnny Kennedy. Deacon Walter Wash ington. Sarah Hart. Jessie Neal. Deaconess Mary Strong. Ersk ine Wallace. Beatrice Banks, John Whitener. Odessa Woodruff. Allie Singletary, Marie Royal and David John son. The seniors have attended plays and banquets; taken a train ride to Raleigh; attended the Barn Dinner Theatre. Black Repertory Theatre, first Assem bly Church plays; and have been on mountain excursions and other outings. Galilee is at 575 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
