Lanterns of Hope was held Saturday on a bright
evening in Corpening Plaza downtown. The annual
event aims to bring together people from various racial
backgrounds for a slate of activities. Saturday's schedule
included a musical performance by a Native American
troupe, gospel music provided by singers from Mt. Zion
Baptist Church and a variety of dancers. The center piece
of the event, were the dozens of lanterns that participants
designed with peace signs, hearts and other symbols. The
lanterns were outfitted with candles and placed in a pool
of water.
