Obituaries WILLIAMS Mr. Cleveland W. Williams, Jr. age 89, the oldest survivor of the Hauser-Williains-Russell family died unexpectedly Sept. 6 in the Wood land Place Assisted Living in Clemmons. He was bom July 24, 1916 in Forsyth County, the son of Cleveland Watson Williams, Sr. and Minnie Belle Bryan Williams. Cleveland received his early schooling in Forsyth County in a school provided by R. J. Reynolds and the rest of his edu cation in New York City and at North Carolina Central College in Durham, NC. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, but he spent most of his life in New York as an employee of New York City. He was pro ceeded in death by his parents, a brother, James Bryan Williams, Sr. and his beloved dog. Precious. Because of his declining health, he returned to Winston- Salem June 1st. Cleveland is survived by: a nephew. James Bryan Williams, Jr., and wife. Linda of Winston-Salem, a niece, Yvette Goodloe, and husband. Samuel Goodloe, Sr., and a great-nephew, Samuel Goodloe, Jr., all of East Amhurst, NY; two great-nieces, Jessica Williams and Anna Miller: a sister-in-law. Ana L. Williams, and a special cousin. Dr. C. Brady Hauser, all of Winston-Salem; a cousin, Jerome Russell of Jonesville, NC; and a host of cousins and friends throughout the United States. Elois was born on September 19th. 1933 in Winston-Salem to John and Bessie Coleman. She attended the local public schools, graduating from Atkins High School in 1951. Ms. Coleman was a dedicated member or Emmanuel Baptist churcn tor many years, wnere sne servea on tne Nan Saunders Missionary Group and the Senior Choir. Ms Coleman loved God and her church family. Ms. Coleman retired from Taylor Brothers Factory after many yeans of service to the employees there by serving as their shop stew ard, actively pursuing the rights of the workers. Elois loved working and never met a stranger. Elois ("Sis") was a community activist will ing to help anyone achieve his or her highest potential. She was loving, kind and generous to everyone she met, especially to her personal family and her church family. She loved to garden and always had a pet to love and nurture. She leaves to cherish fond memories, one, daughter, Eleanor Cole man Pilson (Oscar), one son, Julius Coleman (Nawatha) both of Win ston Salem, four grandchildren. Christopher Coleman (Malika) of Char lotte, NC, Anthony (Dana), Oscar II and Melanie Pilson all of Winston Salem, six great-grandchildren, two sisters, Ms. Hazel & Ms. Loretta Coleman of Winston-Salem, an aunt and uncle of Lancaster, SC and a host of devoted family members and friends. He was bom to the union of Bishop Joseph Douglas and Geneva Strothers White. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers. Issac M. White and John H. White and a niece, Sylvia Mclver. He began his education in Washington, DC, continued it in Guilford County and completing it in Forsyth County School System. Reginald has worked all his life, starting at age 14 as a caddy and shoeshine boy. His professional career in the transportation industry began in 1 965 and has moved him from cab driver to management at both Blue Bird Cab Company of Winston-Salem, NC and Red Bird Cab Company of High Point, NC. Being passionate about his career and tak ing his job seriously, his skills have caused him to be known worldwide in the furniture industry. Sr. Being bom into a family that loved the Lord, it afforded him attributes that became his spiritual foundation. He and his family would sing gospel music at local churches and radio stations. His church -affiliations have been First Baptist Church and Emmanuel -Baptist Church of High Point, NC. After a serious illness in 1 998, he began vis iting churches in the Winston-Salem area. Completing his search at the ;i influence of his son, Ashley. The Greater Cleveland Avenue Christian Church became his home, like no other place. He was bom on Jan. 10, 1909, to the union of Edmond and Una Tyson McClendon in Wadesboro, NC. He was of the Baptist faith, served his country in the United States Army and was a retired employee of the R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. Walter was united in Holy Matrimony with Miss Geneva Kinard McClendon. From this union, a son, George Haywood McClendon was bom. "Gramps" was blessed and lived a full and wonderful life. Street departed this life peacefully on Sept. 9 at his home. Mr. Davis was bom on Nov. 22, 1918 in Winston-Salem, the son of the late Henry and Margaret Fisher Davis. He was a retired employee of Forsyth County General Services. He became a member of Union Baptist Church under the late Rev. Dr. AH. McDaniel. He was a faithful and dedicated mem ber until his health began to decline. Mr. Davis spent his whole life as a resident o the city and was a devoted and loving husband who provided for his family. He loved people, baseball and his family, and he knew and loved the Lord . He was an inspi ration to many, especially his sib lings; grandchildren; and great grandchildren. David was bom in Winston-Salem on July 2, 1940 to the late Emma and Bell G. Cato, Sr. He was the fourth of eleven children. David was preceded in death by three brothers, Calvin, Bell, Jr. and James Arthur Cato and a sister, Beverly Ann Cato. David was a product of the Winston-Salem Forsyth County schools. He attended Forsyth Technical Community College for Computer Technology. He was an MP in the US Army. David was an avid photographer and a graphic artist. His drawings have graced many homes. David was previously employed by RJ. Reynolds Tobacco Co. He spent time assisting seniors in several nursing homes around the city.
