HOF open house slated Five will be inducted on May 4 SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE ' The Winston-Salem Sportsmen Club will have an Open House for its Hall of Fame Shrine/ Museum on May 2, at 4:30-5 p.m. The museum is located at Sixth and Cherry, at the site of the Downtown Middle School . The five inductees of the class of 2007 will be present to greet the public prior to their formal induc tion on May 4, at 7 p.m. The Hall of Fame ceremony will be held at the Benton Convention Center. The Open House will have a social hour with refreshments and a tour of the Shrine/ Museum, depicting the history of the hall of fame program and the classes of .the 24 years of inductees. The session will commence with a brief overview from the "GatheringPlace," which is located adjacent to the plaques and artifacts of the rrfaseum. Tri City athletes run hard at A&T Several Glenn, Wiley athletes also have good outings BY ANTHONY HILL THE CHRONICLE . GREENSBORO' - Several talented Tri-City Relay athletes performed extremely well at the International Friendship and Freedom Games meet over the ^eekend. The special track meet took place on the Irwin Belk track, located on the campus of N.C. A&T. Tri City Relays had over 10 Top 10 finishers during last weekend's track and field meet. Leading the way was the talented Miles Cabean. who came in first in the 1 500-meter race in the Bantam Boys Division. Cabean finished with a time of 5: 14, to beat Durham Striders' Nigel Hunt by 12 sec onds. The talented Ciani Byrom (14.25) finished second in the 100-meter race in the Bantam Girls Division. Erin Morrison (14.35) and Makaila Roberts (14.42) finished third and fourth, respectively. James Morrison finished first in the long jump in the Midget Division with a jump of 4:42 meters. Sidney Jenkins took first place honors in the Bantam Girls long jump event after clearing 2.85. Tri-City Relays' 4x 100-meter relay team (Bantam Girls) impressed during the meet with a first place finish after finishing with a time of 58.25 ? beating the Durham Striders by more than five seconds. That relay team consisted of Ciani Byrom, Erin Pholo b> Ictl Sides Tn-('il\ Tri-City runner Miles Cabean won the lJOO-meter race by more than 10 seconds over the weekend. Morrison, Sydney Jenkins and Makaila Roberts. Perry Cabean (5:07), also had a good showing at the meet. Cabean finished second in the 1500 meter race in the Youth Boys Division. He was nipped by two-tenths of a sec ond by University City Cougar runner, Josh McDonald. Divonnie Powell took third place in the 1300-meter run in the Midget Oirls Division with a time of 5:39.68. Sydney Jenkins and Tyler Mercer also ran well for Tri City over the weekend. Jenkins ran well in the 100 meter race for the Bantam Division, while Mercer finished seventh in 1500 metA' run. Bobcats and Wolverines running at meet Glenn High also had a few respectable performances at the weekend track and field meet. No Bobcats performed better than the 4x200-meter relay team. The team of TJ. Boone, Carlos Carter. Brandon Chandler and Lamont Barber finished first with a time of 1:31. That relay team finished second in the 4x800- and fourth in the 4x 100-meter races. Other Glenn runners to perform well over the weekend were J.B. Honeywell, Geoige Richardson, Isaiah McDonald. Nick Wall, Scott Perine. Nigel Mitchell, Dante Mack and Omari Peterson. Representing Calvin H. Wiley Middle School were Melody ' Butler, Elizabeth Dalton, Bri Kimbrough and Epiphany Walker. The four middle school girls won the 4x 100-meter race in their divi sion after finishing with a time of 5 1.00. Note: S. E. Raleigh stand out runner Gabby Mayo also performed at A&T over the weekend. Mayo won the 100 meter race with a time of 1 1 .40. Javier Castillo Warthogs' Castillo gets honor CHRONICLE STAFF REPORT A Winston-Salem Warthog standout has recieved Carolina League weekly honors for the sec ond straight week. Warthogs outfielder David Cook was the recipient of the Offensive Player of the Week award a week ago. This week, the Carolina League named Winston Salem Warthogs infielder Javier Castillo as the Offensive Player of the Week for April 15 - April 22. During that stretch, Castillo hit .478 (11-23) with a home run and six RBI. Castillo also added a triple, three doubles and three walks to a phenome nal week that included a game against Myrtle Beach on April 17 where finished 4-for-5 with a HR and 3 RBI. He made a dramatic turnaround after starting the season 3-for-21 (.143) with 0 HR and 0 RBI. ^ Castillo was signed as a free agent by the Chicago White Sox in 2002 and spent the 2006 season with Kannapolis, where he hit .256 with 8 HR and 42 RBI. The Warthogs will host the Potomac Nationals at 7 p.m. Tonight's game is tagged as Liberty Steakhouse Thirsty Thursday. That will be the Warthogs final home game until May 4.
