A&T stars earn year-end MEAC honors Beatty is Rookie of the Year CHRONICLE STAFF REPORT Former Glenn High baseball star C.J. Beatty has been racking up collegiate accomplish ments like hits lately. Beatty, who's hitting 324 with 10 home runs and 36 RBI, racked up another award at the MEAC Baseball Tournament Banquet held at Norfolk Slate University. The freshman out- , fielder was named ME AC Rookie of the Year. Beatty was also named to the first team All-MEAC team. He hit .386 against MEAC pitching and is tied for the league lead in home runs. Beatty was an all state performer at Glenn High School in Beatty Kernersville. "Nothing C.J. has done this year surprises us," said Shumate. "We knew the kind of abili ties he had when he came here, but he has also stepped up to every challenge coaches have given him. We need to focus on making sure he gets better and better." N.C. A&T senior Charlie Gamble won the 2007 MEAC Baseball Player of the Year award, (ramble also earned first-team All-MEAC hon ors. Redshirt junior Jeremy Jones and junior Joe Mclntyre earned second-team accolades Gamble became3 the second Aggie to earn the conference's Player of the Year award in three years. Jones took home the trophy in 2005. "We feel extremely flattered that all the sports information directors and coaches recog nized these two young men's accomplish ments," said head coach Keith Shumate. "They are two young men who never let up. If they get one hit, they want two. If they gel two, they want three. They always want to be better." "I think both these guys (Beatty and Gamble) will tell you, they owe a lot to their teammates. If you have a guy like Jeremy Jones hitting in front of you like Charlie does, it makes you a better player." Gamble is hitting .407 this season with eight home runs and 51 RBIs. He hit .493 against MEAC teams this season. He leads the league in batting average, hits (81) and slugging per centage (.638). Ciamble owns nine Aggie o Sec MEAC on B3 Stop dwelling on past issues 0 Pop Warner season still has a few months before it begins But it's never too early to discuss some of the drama and issues that come with every season. I was recently told about a few issues the Falcons are dealing with in prepa ration for their sea son. It turns out that two organizations are refusing to play the team because of the name of their field. from what I under stand l or those that don't know, the Falcons play in a field known as Death Valley. That's pretty petty right there I'm going to touch on that in a minute First, anyone that knows me can tell you thai I'm one of the biggest critics of Pop Warner and some of the behavior it seems to bring out, t FROM THE HUDDLE Anthony Hill Bui most of my frustrations are geared toward thoughtless fans and coaches, unfair weight limits and subliminal racism ? to name a few. I support every area organiza tion from the Tiny Indians, Walkertown Wolfpack, Packers and Falcons to the Lewisville Titans, Oak Ridge0 Colts and Kernersville Raiders. I'm for all of them ? really. Bui sometimes I have to express when an organi zation is wrong. In the case of the Falcons, it seems that two organiza tions are wrong. It was recently brought to my attention that representatives or the King Dolphins and the Forsyth County Broncos are refusing to play the Falcons on the Held because the name of the field Sec Hill on B4 Here, a group of Falcon players get after it during a practice last year.
