WITS IN QUIZ CONTEST
SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE
How knowledgeable are
we when it comes to the Bible
and Black History? Recently
members and friends of Faith
Unity Missionary Church used
their wits to compete in broth
erly love during the church's
second Black History/Bible
Quiz Bowl.
The Rev. Richard K. Watts,
Jr., pastor of Rickard's Chapel
AME Zion Church in
Wilkesboro, was the moderator
of the game. Because he
designed the game for his
church members, Watts was
very familiar with the proce
dures.
Two teams were formed
with eight teammates on each.
After selecting a spokesperson
for each team, a team name
was decided. "Christians" and
"Saints" were decided as the
names of the teams. Members
of the "Christians" were Pastor
Nathaniel P. J. Williams, Jr., Ira
Glenn, Sr., Nicole Glenn,
Bobby Clark, Judy Williams,
LaRhonda Williams. Nathaniel
P. J. Williams, Ili, and little
infant Nathaniel P. J. Williams.
IV.. while the "Saints" consist
ed of Associate Pastor Wanda
H. Williams, Ether Epps,
Jannie Williams, Branden
Clark, Ashleigh Clark, Armen
Clark, Donzella Holmes, and
Tiffany Taylor. The first half of
the game focused on questions
concerning Black History,
which left the "Christians"
with the leading points.
After a brief intermission,
the teams welcomed the sec
ond half with the Bible ques
tions. They both felt more con
fident with the upcoming ques
tions about the Bible than the
history. However, some ques
tions brought on some intense
thinking such as "Recite the
Ten Commandments."
As the conclusion of the
game drew near, Vickie Epps,
the scorekeeper, could scarcely
believe the scores - just a five
point difference with both
teams laughing and encourag
ing each other to do some seri
ous thinking. The scores
remained close up until Watts
asked the final question.
Scores were not the real pur
pose of the quiz bowl. The
purpose was to fellowship with
each other with love.
However, the last question,
which both teams answered
correctly, landed the
"Christians" with the winning
points.
At the conclusion of the
game. Watts distributed hand
outs with answers to the histo
ry questions, after which Judy
Williams presented all team
players with gifts of love.
Immediately after the quiz
bowl, everyone was served a
soul food dinner.
