Religion Calendar Beginning July 12 Pastor celebrates ninth anniversary The New World Cappadocia Outreach Center is celebrat ing Pastor Rip's ninth pastoral anniversary. The church is currently located in the Quality Inn. 351 Akron Dr., across the street from Wendy's and next door to Mountain Fried Chicken. July 12, Pastor Barry Washington and Whole Man Ministries will be the guest church at 7 p.m. July 13. 7 pjn., Bishop Melvin Wilkins, Jr. and New Generation Praise & Worship Church will be guests. Dr. Joseph Jones The Missionary Circle of Zion Memorial Baptist Church celebrated its 62nd Anniversary on July I at 4 p.m. Minister Velma McCloud was the guest speaker. Minister McCloud is a native of Reidsville, N.C.; a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, and Winston-Salem State University (B.A. in English). She retired after teaching 28 years form the Winston-Salem County School System in 2000. She preached her initial sermon on Nov. 16, 1997 at Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where she was ordained July 31, 1999. The Mass Choir of Zion rendered music under the direction of Harold Evans. Alberta Williams is pres ident and Rev. Dr. Joseph Jones is the pastor. The church is at 101 N. July 15, the Inspirational Choir of Mount Zion Baptist Church, under the direction of Mr. Dionn Owen, will celebrate 30 years of min istry in music. The Theme, "...Come Too Far to Turn Around!" is the Choir's per sonal testimony. ' In July of 1977,30 charter members, with a burning desire to worship the Lord in song, stepped out on faith to see what the end would be. Today,the choir reap the har vest of seeds sown 30 years ago. God continues to bless the choir with a bounty of talented directors, musicians, and vocalists: each bringing ttteir God-given talent and commit ment to His service. Past directors such as Graham Fletcher, Edward Patterson, Dyna McGriff and Belinda Daniels, have left their mark on the choir. The present musi cians are Kevin Scott, pianist. Robert Grier, bassist, Brandon Jenkins, organist and Melvin Johnson, percussionist. The Mount Zion Inspirational Reunion Choir, consisting of current and for mer members, will present a repertoire of songs from the choir's 30-year history. In addition to old favorites, the service will include songs from the not too distant past including a moving tribute to the deceased choir members set to a song written by the choir's first ? director, Graham Fletcher. The Anniversary Celebration is open to the pub lic. Cherry St. Talbert to offer workshop She heads Baylor University's spiritual formation program SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE Trinity Center, Inc., an ecumenical center for coun seling, Christian spiritual for mation and educa t i o n , c e 1 e - brates 2 5 years o f serving t h e c o m - munity with a Talbert kickoff event that welcomes back Betty Talbert, one of its founders. Talbert will be offering one of her renowned spiritual formation workshops "Staying Centered in God for the. Long Haul" as part of this event. Trinity Center will con tinue the celebration with a front porch gathering after the workshop. The anniversary event will be held on July 22 with the workshop being offered from 3-5:30 p.m. at Calvary Moravian Church. The front porch celebration will begin at approximately 6 p.m.. The cost of the work shop is $70 per person. Talbert is a licensed pro fessional counselor and holds a certificate of completion in Christian Spiritual Guidance from Washington Theological Union and Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation. She has earned degrees from George Peabody College, Vanderbilt University and the University of North Carolina. In 1982, she along with Catherine Sinopoli and Ann Dixon Coppage, founded Trinity Center, an organiza tion that fosters healing and wholeness through counsel ing, spiritual formation and educational services. In 1996, she accepted the position of Director of Spiritual Formation at Truett Seminary, Baylor University. Dr. Talbert has written a series of spiritu al growth manuals, as well as articles, book reviews, poetry and sermons. She has exten sive teaching and church min istry experience.
