Jazzy Christmas, on Dec. 1 at the Arts Council Theatre on Coliseum Dr. at 7:30 p.m. The group offers a combination of smooth, contemporary jazz and favorite standards. The band consists of four men. Sims, Sr. Recreation Center's 14th annual Peace Toys for War Toys Exchange will be held Dec. 21 at 6 p.m. Youth may exchange violent toys and video games for peace toys such as basketballs, footballs, puzzles, video and computer games. Destination: Ethiopia Weekend festival spotlights African nation BY JAESON PITT THE CHRONICLE A festival held Saturday brought the culture of the African nation of Ethiopia to Winston-Salem State University's Diggs Gallery. The event was the first ever of the City of Winston Salem's Human Relations Commission's Global Festival Series and coincided with Diggs' current exhibit, "Continuity and Change: Three Generations of Ethiopian Artists", which will be on display until Dec. 8. The function included a cultural overview of the Northern African country, an Ethiopian fashion show, tradi tional dance, children's arts and crafts, as well as an authentic Ethiopian food sam pler and coffee ceremony. Volunteers from the Kidane Mehret Ethiopian Orthodox Church of the Triad (the only one of its kind in North Carolina), contributed to the event, as did Textures Art Gallery. Diggs Gallery Director Belinda Tate called the art exhibit "a curator's dream." Continuity and Change is co curated by Ethio'p'ian-born Achamyeleh Debela, a gradu ate of the School of Fine Arts in Addis-Ababa, which was founded by the famed Haile Selassie. Most of the artists featured in the show are also graduates of the school. Sec Festival on B8 Young people get assistance as they work on art projects.
