THE CHRONICLE
A festival held Saturday
brought the culture of the
African nation of Ethiopia to
Winston-Salem State
University's Diggs Gallery.
The event was the first
ever of the City of Winston
Salem's Human Relations
Commission's Global
Festival Series and coincided
with Diggs' current exhibit,
"Continuity and Change:
Three Generations of
Ethiopian Artists", which will
be on display until Dec. 8.
The function included a
cultural overview of the
Northern African country, an
Ethiopian fashion show, tradi
tional dance, children's arts
and crafts, as well as an
authentic Ethiopian food sam
pler and coffee ceremony.
Volunteers from the
Kidane Mehret Ethiopian
Orthodox Church of the Triad
(the only one of its kind in
North Carolina), contributed
to the event, as did Textures
Art Gallery.
Diggs Gallery Director

exhibit "a curator's dream."
Continuity and Change is co
curated by Ethio'p'ian-born
Achamyeleh Debela, a gradu
ate of the School of Fine Arts
in Addis-Ababa, which was
founded by the famed Haile
Selassie. Most of the artists
featured in the show are also
