Caudle will be responsible for assisting funeral homes with the organ and tissue donation process in CDS' 78 county serv ice region. The funeral home liaison position sprang from the need to formalize relationships with funeral homes within CDS' service Caudle area. Like funeral homes, it is CDS' mis sion to ensure that families are able to grieve in a peaceful and non-disruptive manner. Building strong relationships with funeral homes is a positive step in serv ing these families better. Caudle served as a licensed funeral director at Hayworth Miller Funeral Home in Winston-Salem for more than 14 years. He became familiar with families who donated "The Gift of Life" while acting as donor services liaison in all four of Hayworth-Miller's locations. Caudle is a current Policy Board Member of the National Funeral Directors Association and served on the board of the North Carolina Funeral Directors Association (2000-2007) including positions as secretary, treasurer, vice-president and president. Background: For the winter quarter, our theme is "God's Call to the Christian Community." Our study focuses on the Gospel VI l.LlKt December examines God's Call in Christ. January opens us up to the inspira tion of the Call and February will close out with our response to the Call. To sum things up. the winter quarter requires the church (individ uals and corpo rate) to live out its purpose. During biblical times, God used angels and visions to direct peo ple. Even so, the people were ordinary just like us! You see He takes ordinary people doing ordinary things and creates extraordinary outcomes. He calls each of us for a purpose. When we recognize this, life is no longer simply ordinary There are several aspects of God's Call that we must remem ber. First, He continues to call us, some more dramatic than others for His purpose. One call is just as important as another! Secondly, He calls individuals who are already in motion. Finally, His call, however over whelming, should bring joy to the life of the believer. This doesn't exempt one from the highs and lows of life yet through it all there will be a peace that confounds the world. God is galling. Do you hear Him? The Gospel of Luke is the longest book in the New Testament. Penned by a Gentile (non Jew) physician (Colossians 4: 14), he gives an orderly histor ical account of Jesus' life and ministry to Theophilus (thee AH fuh luss), a ranking Roman offi cial. Both books, Luke and Acts are addressed to him. An associate of Paul's, Luke wrote this Gospel around AD. 58 while the apostle was impris oned in Caesarea. Luke stressed four points: the Gospel is for everyone; the humanity of Jesus; the importance of prayer; and the work of the Holy Spirit. He Mildred Peppers Sunday School Lesson also gave priority to women. Luke the third of the Synoptic Gospels (very similar) gave more details than Matthew and Mark. Based on current knowl edge, he is the only Gentile con tributor to the New Testament. Lesson: The Gospel opens with an account of the prediction of the birth of the forerunner of Christ. Once again a couple (Zechariah and Elizabeth) prayed to God for a son. It appears that their prayer will not be answered. Zechariah and his wife are descendants of Aaron (priestly class). Both are upright and blameless (solid character) according to Scripture. While serving in the Temple on his rotation, Zechariah is chosen by Lot to burn incense. This alone is a great honor that happens once in a lifetime. This is the pinnacle moment in any priest's career. This ordinary old man completing his ordinary rotation (still sacred) is about to hear from God! As the worshipers prayed, Zechariah burns the incense at the door of the Holy of Holies and suddenly an angel appears to him. He is gripped with fear, the angel calms him down, acknowledges their prayers, and tfien delivers the news. It has been 400 yeai^ since God spoke to His people and now the priest finds out thai his son will prepare the way for God's Son. This child whose name will be John (God is gr<i cious) is to be a Nazarite filled with the Holy Spirit at birth In the spirit of Elijah, he will lead tne people duck to God Zechariah doubts what he has just heard' Because of that, the angel tells him that he will be speechless until everything is fulfilled. This silence is due to his unbelief He takes too long in the Temple. When be comes out, he can't speak The people realize that he has had an encounter with God. His two weeks of service comes to an end. and he returns home to Elizabeth. Application: When we get astounding news, we are dumb founded. A friend of mine always says, "consider the source." With that being the case, an angel delivering a mes sage from God makes my knee weak. However, there is nothing too hard for God! How can we be faithful and doubt? God doesn't lie; He keeps His Word There is no room for doubt. The challenge for believers is to be faithful no matter what Zechariah's faith wavered; so does ours, but does our faith grow as God keeps His Word to us? We are ordinary people but when in His Will we become something else. We don't have to be rich, famous, attractive, or powerful to be used by the Almighty! He is calling, do you hear Him? Do you act like you believe? ?9a frj) BlueCross BlueShield lair of North Carolina Your plan for better health".
