Youth conference and step show The Nu Tau Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. will be hosting its first Youth Conference and Step Show entitled "Stepping Out of Violence Into Loving Ourselves and Others" on Saturday Feb. 23, at Greater Cleveland Avenue Christian Church. Admission to the conference is free, however admission to the step show is $5 per person. Food and bev erages will be available for sale at the event. All proceeds will support community out reach efforts of the Nu Tau Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Getting to Know Satachmo A special presentation by the curators of the Louis Armstrong Museum will be held at the Central Library Auditorium, Feb. 25, 7 - 8:30 p.m. The public will have an opportunity to learn about the life of Louis Armstrong and see historical artifacts from the museum's collection. Volunteers needed The Shepherd's Center of Greater Winston-Salem needs volunteers to provide visita tion, transportation for med ical appointments and grocery shopping, and minor home repairs for older adults. Training for new volunteers will be held on Thursday, Feb. 28, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 520 Summit St. Lunch will be provided. N'awlins Style Omegas revive popular Mardi Gras event BY JAESON PITT THE CHRONICLE New Orleans and cities from Venice, Italy to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil celebrated "Fat Tuesday," or Mardi Gras, earlier this week. Not to be left behind, Winston-Salem got a jump start on the festivities Saturday thanks to the Psi Phi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incn which re launched its popular "Mardi Gras Costume Extravaganza." Omega men and dozens of others crowded the Education Building of the Dixie Classic Fairgrounds for the event, which serves as a fundraiser for the chapter's scholarship fund. The Psi Phi Chapter has hosted the event, off and on. Longtime Omega Man Billy Friende Jr. for the last two decades. But for the last few years, the Mardi Gras event has been on hiatus. Those in attendance Saturday say they are glad to see it back. "I'm a Delta, and F look forward to supporting this event because it is a big help to the community.," said Lisa Smith, who- was dressed as comic book heroine. Wonder Worffan. "(The Omegas) are really reaching out and trying to give back." Smith's get-up was among several eccentric costuffies worn.
