SSAAH
annual
banquet
a success
SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE
The Society for The Study
of Afro American History
held its annual banquet
recently at the Anderson
Center on the campus of
Winston-Salem State
University. The keynote
speaker was Kenneth W.
Lewis, Esquire, a partner in
the firm of Womble, Carlyle,
Sandridge & Rice. He is the
son of the Rev. Henry S.
Lewis, Jr., pastor emeritus of
Wentz Presbyterian Church.
Attorney Lewis' theme
centered on the need for a
dynamic, concerted effort by
the black community to focus
on economic empowerment.
Blacks collectively are richer
than most nations. He
stressed the fact that what is
needed is a collective effort to
pool resources in an effort to
make a significant impact to
become economically power
ful.
The SSAH sponsors an
annual banquet each year to
rais? funds to continue its
mission to collect and display
historical pictures and other
artifacts related to the black
experience. The Society
needs the support of the
Winston-Salem community to
continue to document the
African-American presence
and contributions to the pub
lic.
They encourage interested
" parties to become active
members with them in pre
serving and recording the rich
heritage of African-American
life in Winston-Salem/Forsyth
County. Contact Lester
Davis, membership chair, at
336-971-6851 or mail
inquires to P. O. Box 20204,
Winston-Salem, N.C. 27120
0204. Miriam McCarter is

Herrell was banquet coordina
