Mr. Richard Allen Andrews, Sr.
died at Silas Creek Manor Nursing
Home on the morning of May 28,
2008.
He was born November 14, 1928
to Mr. D.W. Andrews, Sr. and Mrs.
Jessie S. Andrews in Winston-Salem,
NC.
His early education was received
in the public schools of Winston
Salem and he attended Hampton
Institute in Virginia.
He was a member of Goler
Metropolitan AME Zion Church.
Following a long residence in
New York, he returned home to
spend his retirement years after short
periods of employment with RJ
Reynolds Tobacco Company and
Winston-Lake Golf Course. He was
an active member of the Atkins High
School Alumni Association in
Winston-Salem, NC.
He was preceded In death by his
parents; one brother, James G.
Andrews; and one sister, Dorothy
Andrews Stephens.
Surviving are his children,
Barbara Johnson of Anderson, SC.

Park, FL, Michael (Phyllis) Andrews
of White Plains, NY, Darryl Andrews
of Bronx, NY, and Douglas (Mary)

Andfews both of Winston-Salem,
NC; a devoted sister-in-law, Mary G.
Andrews; seven grandchildren; five
great-grandchildren; and a host of
nieces, nephews, other relatives and
friends who will cherish his memory.

Ms. Gayle Winstead Britton, 60,
entered into eternal rest on Monday,
May 26, 2008 at Grace Healthcare
after a long battle with Muscular
Dystrophy. She was born on
November 17,
1947 to Flaudia
Funderburk
Winstead and
William McKinley
Winstead. Gayle
was a 1966 gradu
ate of Atkins High
School. She was a
Certified Nurse
Assistant before
her illness. Mrs. Britton is survived
by two daughters: Flaudia Yvette
(Rolland) Greene and Elizabeth
"Oochie" Britton; three grandchil
dren: Latasha Winstead, Erick D.
Winstead and Jabriel Lee and a host
of other family and friends. A memo
rial service was at 2 p.m., Monday,
June 2 in the chapel of Clark S.
Brown & Sons Funeral Home. The
famil y ^visited with friends 30 min
utes prior to the service. Clark S.
Brown & Sons was in charge of serv
ices.

Mr. John Edward Bruton was
born April 6, 1961 and passed away
June 9, 2008. He was a loving son
and held a special place in the heart
of his mother. He attended the local
public schools. He worked for a
company which later becam Waste
Management Company. Mr. Bruton
was preceded in
death by his sister.

Crumblin Carter had an appointment
with the Lord. Mrs. Carter was bom
March 29, 1937 to Robert and Marie
Crumblin of Winston-Salem, NC.
She received her education from
the public school system and was an
attentive wife and homemaker.

Mrs. Carter blessed her family

W. Heiney officiated. Interment fol
lowed in Evergreen Cemetery. The

felt appreciation to Dr. Douglas W.
Stewart and staff at Nephrology
Associates, the nurses and staff at
Piedmont Dialysis Center, and the
medical staff at Forsyth Medical
Center who assisted in the care of

Cassandra Velvet Douglas, 56
passed away Wednesday, May 28,
2008 at Wake Forest University
Baptist Medical Center after a brief
period of illness.
She was preceded in death by her
parents, Marguerite and George
Douglas, Jr.; her sister, Celestine
Anne Douglas; and her uncle,
De Walter Rice.
She is survived by her sister,
Vanessa Douglas Bratton (Ruben,
Jr.) of Winston-Salem, NC; two
nieces, Marguerite Bratton Murden
(Henry, Jr.) and LaKisha Bratton
Roseborough (Anthony); one great
nephew, Henry Mack Murden, JII.
and one great-niece, Riana Gail
Murden all of Winston-Salem, NC;
two aunts, Dorothy Douglas
Patterson (Bishop Frederick D.) and
Pastor Gemine G. Rice; one uncle,
Theodore R. Douglas of Black
Mountain, NC; and a host of other

HAUSER
Elder George Hauser Jr., was
born January 4, 1929, to the Late
George Hatiser Sr. and Marie
Almeeta Black Brown. He was
reared in the Piney Grove Section.
He attended Kimberly Park School.
His nickname was "Hammer". He
was reared in the Piney Grove com
munity.
He was later married to the Late
Mildred Nelson Hauser. From that
union was, Raymond Jones, Gregory
Hauser, and
George Hauser III,
Minister Deborah
Odom, and Janice
Faust.
During the time
he was called
"Hammer" he had
a "hammer type"
personality. Then
one day he heard a minister, preach a
sermon, "Life Can Be Beautiful", at
Kimberly Park Holiness Church. It
changed hisdife. He joined and
served over 35 faithfully years at
Kimberly Park Holiness Church. He
served as a "Deacon," thus he was
then known as "Deacon Hauser"
everywhere he went.
Elder Hauser is a great exalter,
singing the old hymns of Zion.
If revival was going on any
where, if he could get there, he was
there. He was sort out by pastors to
come to their revivals, because of his
gift of "exaltation" in songs to the
Lord, which would help prepare the
people for worship.
He was faithful to a many pastors
and churches in and around this area,
singing the songs of Zion. There
were a few special friends that took
time to say thank you to him, Dr
Samuel Cornelius and the late Dr. J
Ray Butler.

Jerusalem Baptist Church family
would come every year for his
anniversary.
Elder Hauser loved to hear the
male chorus.
rfe was employed for 35 years at
the Thomasville Furniture Company.
He has since retired.
January 3, 1987 he was united in
Holy Matrimony to Pastor Sarah
Coleman ^owdy. From that union,
added to the family, Sharon

(Andrea) Rowdy, Latfc Maria
(Bishop Dwight Earl, Melvin
(Priscilla) Rowdy, Darryl (Lisa)
Rowdy, Sabrina (Gerry) Belcher.
In 1986 Elder George Hauser
began preached his initial sermon at
Kimberly Park Holiness Church.
In 1990 he begin to minister at
the Sunrise Towers faithfully, on
Sunday mornings, to the home
bound, until his health failed.
Elder George Hauser loved to
praises to our God. Songs like,
"Down Though the Years the Lord
Has Been Good To Me"," You Can't
Find A Man Like Jesus". , "Soldier
In the Army of The Lord",
He was" truly a "Living
Testimony" and don't forget, "One
More Battle to Fight." He can now
sing and never get tired. He can
stomp agairt, He can shout around
heaven all dav.
Now he does not have "One
More Battle To Fight". THE BAT

MCCANTS
Frank Harry McCants, 65 died on
Sunday, June 1, 2008, at Hospice
Care after a period of illness.
Born in Winston Salem, NC to
Frank and Lottie Mae McCants on
February 4, 1942, he joined the U.S
Army shortly after graduation from
Carver High
acnool .
Mr. McCants
eventually settled
in New York
where he
remained for over
25 years before
moving to New
Jersey. Mr.
McCants worked
for Polarome Manufacturing
Company as a Chemical
Compounder, before retiring in 2007
and returning to Winston Salem to
begin his retirement years.
Mr. McCants is survived by
daughters, Felicia (McCants) Aiken;
Stacey (McCants) Kneeland and
sons Frank "Lymon" McCants;
Harry Frank McCants, Bryan
McCants, Dwayne McCants,
Michael McCants; former wives
(late) Patricia McCants of Winston
Salem; Joy McCants of New York;
Dale Davis McCants of Maryland
and close friend Alicia Mitchell. Mr.
McCants is also survived by sisters
Gwendolyn (McCray) Robinson,
Gladys (McCants) Rivers, Kathy
McCants; brothers James Edward

Blanche Robinson McCants: grand

MELTON
Mr. Phillip Melton, Sr., 63 of
1238 Brookwood Drive passed away
May 26 at his home after a short ill
ness. Mr. Melton was the son of
Milton Melton, Sr. and Caline
Halloday Melton.
He was a graduate of Carver
High School and attended Winston
Salem State University, Mr. Melton
served in the US Army from 1967
until 1971 when he was honorably
discharged. He was employed by
Stroh's Brewery and retired after 30
years of service.
He was preceded in death by his
parents; one sister, Amtera Melton;
and one brother, Donald Melton.
Left behind to cherish his mem
ories are his wife, Dolly Melton; two
sons, Philip Melton, Jr. and Lamon
Williams; one brother, Milton
Melton, Jr.; an adopted daughter,

On May 27 at the age Of 66,
Johnnie Mae Smith took her
Heavenly Flight and went home to
be with the Lord. She was born to
John and Nancy Smith. She graduat
ed from Carver High School the
Class of 1960, and was retired from
Browns & Williamson Tobacco
Company. She was sensitive to the
needs of others and loved bringing
joy to others. She was an avid animal
lover. She would take lemons and
make lemon-aid. She was preceded
in death by her mother, Nancy
Margretta Smith Whisonant and her
father John Smith; sister, Ernestine
S. Rodgers. She leaves to cherish her
memories a devoted and loving
daughter, Deborah Kaye Smith, and
a special, loving, son-in-law, Paul,
and a host of devoted family and
friends, (Mae). She and her funny,
beautiful smile will be truly missed
by all who knew, and loved her, and
whose lives she touched by her kind

TAYLOR
Thomas Robert Taylor, 86 passed
away peacefully May 22 at the North
Carolina State Veterans Home in
Salisbury, North Carolina. Thomas
was born' on June 17, 1922 in
Winston Salem, North Carolina to
Evelyn Hairston Gilmore and
Fletcher Gilmore.
He attended Atkins High School,
earned a Master's Degree from Shaw
University, and was a member of
First Baptist Church, Winston
Salem, N.C. from his youth until his
death.
Following college he served in
the Air Force and retired after serv
ing more than 22 years.
Preceding him in death were his
parents; his devoted wife of 41
years, Louise Payne Taylor; and one
daughter, Velma Ree Melton.

Janice Evelyn Wells (Rufus, Sr.) of
Winter Garden, FL; one sister, Mrs.
Shirley Wallace of Wildwood, FL;
four grandchildren, Regina

WILLIAMS
Mr. Booker T. Williams of
Winston-Salem, NC passed peace
fully at his residence May 25. He
was born August 25, 1934 in
Greenwood, SC, and was the son of
Wade Andrews and Lela Devore.
He was a retired Navy Boiler
Technician Chief after 22 years of
dedicated service to the United
States Navy. He retired from
Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection
and Insurance Company in Hartford,
CT where he served with distinction
as a Boiler Inspector. He moved
from Jamaica, N.Y. to Winston
Salem in 1997.
Mr. Williams was a devoted
member of United Cornerstone
Missionary Baptist Church and took
his position as Deacon very serious
ly and humbly considered it as an
honor. He was President of the Fleet
Reserve Association Branch 217
where he was also an active volun
teer.
He was preceded in death by his
parents and eldest son, Roger
Watson.
He is survived by his loving and
devoted wife of 28 years, Eire May
Williams; along with his four chil
dren, Terri Nelson, Keith Williams,
Roderick Garcia (Claude Vera), and
Krystal Williams.
He will be extremely missed by
his many grand and great-grandchil
dren as well as a host of close friends
and extended family members.
Memorial services were held at
11 a.m. May 31 from the United
Cornerstone Missionary Baptist
Church. Pastor C. Anthony Jones
