Carolyn Denise Burns and
Vance Maurice Speller, both
of Winston-Salem, were mar
ried at 4 p.m. on June 7 at
Emmanuel Baptist Church in
Winston-Salem. The Rev.
John Mendez and the Rev.
Frank Lowery officiated the
ceremony.
The bride is the daughter
of Tynie Burns and the late
Johnny Burns Sr. of Winston
Salem. The bride received her
master's degree in guidance
and agency counseling from
N.C. A&T State University
and is an account executive
with ValueOptions, Inc. and in
private practice with Sims
Consulting & Clinical
Services.
The groom is the son erf
Carol Adams Speller and the
late James Speller Sr. of
Philadelphia. He is a graduate
of Fraukford High School and
a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
The groom is a correctional
officer for the State of North
Carolina and a security spe
cialist.
The bride was escorted by
her cousin Mr. Mitchell Burns
Jr. The maids of honor were
Sharon Burns and Denise
Thompson, both of Winston
Salem. The matrons of honor
were Celeste Frazier, of
Stanley N.C., and Deborah
Muhammad of Winston
Salem. The bridesmaids were
the bride's niece, Johnna'
Burns, and friends Darlene
Steele, Jewel Venable and
Sarah Bullock, all of Winston
Salem; Iris Fewell of
Greensboro; and Rita Boone
of Edge wood. Md. The flower
girl was Avianna Burns of
Winston-Salem.
The best men were the
groom's brothers, Adrian
Speller of Philadelphia, and
Jamie Speller of San Antonio,
Texas. The groomsmen were
Ryan Speller, Greg Adams
and Craig Speller of
Philadelphia; Michael
Prioleau of High Point;
Anthony Frazier of Stanley,
N.C.; James Speller Jr. of
Clinton, Md; and Terry Jones
of Pfafftown. Ushers included
Anthony Waddy Sr., Will
Pledger and junior ushers
Saeed Muhammad and
Anthony Waddy Jr., all of
Winston-Salem. The ring
bearer was the bride's son,
Johnnie Morrison Jr,
A bridal shower was host
ed by the maids and matrons
of honor and bridal atten
dants. A rehearsal dinner host
ed by Mitchell Bums, Martin
Colson, Ronald Burns and
Robert Adams, the bride's
cousins. Ceremony music was
performed by ENVISION.
Reception mu?ic was provid
ed by DJ Leroy Richardson.
The wedding reception
was held at the Enrichment
Center and catered by
Spellbound Caterers. The
floating reception at
Emmanuel was catered by
Wandella Ridgdl-Rice. The
wedding cake was provided
by Terry Jones' Cake

Bolton students get some "Girl Talk'7

Bolton Elementary School
Counselor Rinita Williams,
along with Assistant
Principal Debbie
Mclntyre and Principal
Doreen Sorensen, offered an
after school enrichment men
toring program for girls at the
school.
Once a week, the young
students met for "Girl Talk."
The girls interacted with men
tors to receive valuable infor
mation and encouragement.
The program aims to help
ease the transition from ele
mentary to middle school for
the girls and expand learning
opportunities in a safe, caring
environment.
Williams wrote a grant
proposal and received funding
through the Winston-Salem
Foundation and Wal-Mart.

to take part in a variety of
activities through the pro
gram. Outings included visits

to Salem College, the
Piedmont Club and other local
eateries. The girls also did a
community service project
themed around Earth Day.
Girl Talk also included many
creative events, such as arts
and crafts and professional
dance lessons.
Reagan's Brianna Holland selcted for NSHSS
SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE
The National Society of
High School Scholars (NSHSS)
has announced that Ronald
Wilson Reagan High School stu
dent Brianna Holland has been
selected for membership. She is
a member of St. Stephen
Missionary Baptist Church. Her
parents are Cletis and Barbara
Holland.
The society recognizes top
scholars and invites only those
students who have achieved
superior academic excellence.
The announcement
was made by NSHSS
Founder and
Chairman Claes
Nobel, a senior
member of the fami
ly that established
the Nobel Prizes.

ored to recognize the
hard work, sacrifice,
and commitment that
Brianna Holland has demon
strated to achieve this exception
