The Winston-Salem Psi
Phi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi
Fraternity Inc., ended one of
its most successful and indus
trious years ever on June 1 1 .
The chapter's accomplish
ments included a very well
attended Achievement Week
ceremony at SciWorks
Science Center; a Talent Hunt
program that yielded the Sixth
District Talent Hunt Winn&\
Kyle Walker; and an outstand
ing Mardi Gra< event that
received rave reviews
throughout the Triad. The
Brothers also awarded five
$1,000 scholarships to local
graduating high schoql sen
iors.
Brothers Kenneth Rocker
and Emory Jones were recog
nized for their volunteer
efforts at Latham Elementary
School, in addition Brothers
Ralph Latta, Keith Vereen and
Marcus Lilly participated in
the fraternity's Assault on
Illiteracy effort at Latham.
The chapter also managed
to induct six new members
into the fold of Omega. The
"Sensational Six" crossed the
burning sands on Saturday,

will be the new Basileus;
Brother Emory Jones is Vice
Basileus; Brother James
Singletary is the Keeper of
Records and Seal; brother
Keith Vereen is the Assistant
KRS; Brother Clark Hanner is
the Keeper of Finance;
Brother Donnie Holt is the
Assistant KF; Brother Donald
Spencer is Chaplain; Brother
Billy Friende is
Parliamentarian; and Brother
Kenneth Francis is Keeper of
Peace.
This month, the fraternity
will celebrate their 75th
Grand Conclave in
Birmingham, Ala. Several
members from Psi Phi
Chapter will be in attendance
for this monumental occasion.
Some Brothers will be recog
nized for their years of dedi
cation and service to the fra
ternity. Upon their return,
they will begin preparations
to take 10 jrpung men from
Forsyth County to the Sixth
District Omega Boys Camp at
Camp Hanes in King. This
program has been made possi
ble in part from community
support of the chapter's man
dated programs. The chapter
is giving special thanks to
every business and individual
that supported Psi Phi Chapter
this year.
Happy Hill Reunion will celebrate Anderson High
Annual event is
this weekend

The William C. Sims, Sr.
Recreation Center will pres
ent the 15th Annual Happy
Hill Community Reunion on
July 11 at 7 p.m. at the Sims
Recreation Center, and on
July 12 from 11:30 a.m.- 6
p.m. in Happy Hill Park.
The Friday night (July 11)
program will honor the 1962 -
67 State Football Champions
and cheerleaders from
Anderson Senior High
School. Anderson coaches
will be honored as well, and
even the deceased players and
cheerleaders will also be hon
ored with a candlelight vigil.
"We are looking for
Anderson Bulldogs students,
teachers, principals and guid
ance counselors to attend this
program on Friday night,"
said Ben Piggott and William
"Rock" Bitting, organizers of
the Happy Hill Reunion pro
gram.
On July 12 at ll:3U a.m..
the reunion will start off with
a community vigil, a Balloon
Lift for Peace, and a Libation
Ceremony with members of
the Liberian Association of
the Piedmont. The community
picnic will start at 12:30 p.m.
Attendees are asked to bring
ctheir own lawn chairs and pic
nic baskets to share with fam
ily and friends.

Boss Drummers, 'Gerald the
Pearl,' fcedric Moser, Grey
"Catman" Good, the Essence
Dancers, Kinfolk of Mine, the
Fruit of Islam, Tim Smith,
Marc Worthy, Carolyn G. Hill,
the New Jerusalem Baptist
Church Male Chorus, the
Atkins High School Drumline
and Dancers, Charli Madison,
Mozell Duncan, Mrs. Ebony's
Dance Group, Carlotta
Samuel Fleming, artists from
Bone Park Records (Raster
and Alert) and the show stop
ping group. New Deminsion,
featuring Cleo Young.
There will be a youth tal
ent show featuring MC Cedric
Moser, Cleo Young and Jonell
Hunter. The horseshoe tourna
ment, Softball game, bingo
games (for prizes) and free
swimming are sponsored by
the Winston-Salem
Recreation' and Parks
Department.
On July 12 at 11 a.m., the
Happy Hill Reunion crowd
will worship with Pastor
Norman R. Carter Sr. at the
Highway and Hedges Praise
and Worship Outreach
Ministries. Organizers Piggott
and Bitting are patiently wait
ing to see what t-shirt design
er Kayyum Allah will create
for the 2008 15th Annual
Happy Hill Reunion.
