Wake Forest cops earn accreditation Department had to meet dozens oflACLEA standards araOAL TP THE CHRONICLE __ The Wake Forest University Police Department has been awarded full accreditation by the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (1ACLEA). Accreditation signifies that Wake Forest's campus police department meets more than 200 lACLEA-designated stan dards covering such areas as administration, training ai^J career development, patrol, crime prevention and investigation, evi dence collection and management, and traffic operations. 1ACLEA launched its new accreditation program in 2006, addressing many professional practices that are unique to cam pus public safety. Wake Forest was one of two agencies, along with the University of California at Northbridge, which participated in a pilot program to test IACLEA's accreditation process, includ ing a rigorous on-site assessment conducted by an accreditation team. ? Chief of Police Regina G. Lawson^was expected to accept the award on behalf of Wake Forest at the June 28 annual IACLEA conference in Hartford, Conn. "Our department has become recognized as an accom plished campus police agency through the leadership of our command staff and the cooperation of the university adminis tration and campus community," Lawson said. "I particularly want to thank President Nathan O. Hatch and Vice President Ken Zick for their support, and I commend Lt. Preston Oldham and Dep. Chief Ken Overholt for the critical roles they played in the accreditation process." IACLEA, wirh headquarters in West Hartford, Conn., repre sents more than 1,200 educational institution members and 2,000 individual members by providing educational resources, advocacy and professional development services.
