Series makes contribution to ministers SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE The Preaching to Preachers Series ended its four-month series with a glori ous service recently featuring Dr. John Mendez, pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church. A $1,000 check was presented to the Ministers Conference of Winston-Salem and Vicinity on behalf of the Preaching To Preachers Series, which began in July and was held the first Sunday tof August, September and October at Union Baptist Church. q The purpose of the series was to bring ministers together from all over the city to be ministered to. The services included workshops for minister's wives, church leaders, choirs and associate ministers. Information briefs were given to pastors about health, banking and finances and insurance. The check presentation took place last week at Union Baptist. YWCA will have free National Family Health & Fitness Day activities Saturday SPECIAL TO THE CHRONIC! J. -*-r The YWCA has been selected as a host site for National Family Health & Fitness Day and has scheduled a full slate of free activi ties and health enhancement opportunities. The "Gateway to A Healthier You" activities will be held Saturday, Sept. 27, from 10 ajn. - noon at the Gateway YWCA. All activities are free to the community. The Winston-Salem Storm Men's Semi-Pro Basketball team will provide skills training and clinics with the players. Winston-Salem State University will offer reading sessions for students. The Wake Forest University YWCA Collaborative will offer healthy cooking demos. Other scheduled events include performances by marching bands, step teams and hip hop dancers, and soccer and kick boxing clinics. Health education vendors will provide interactive health experi ences as well as information on healthier living. Peterson will help Union Bethel AME celebrate anniversary SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE With the theme of "Laborers Working Together for the Lord,: Union Bethel A.M.E. Church will celebrate its 113th Church Anniversary on Sunday, Sept. 21. Pastor Chalice E. Overy will render 11 a.m. service, while the 3 p.m. speaker will be the Rev. Mary F. Peterson, pastor of Clover Garden A.M.E. Church of Burlington. Peterson is a native of Lincolnton, N.C. She is a graduate of Atkins High School and Shaw University. She has also studied at Duke University Divinity School. She is an ordained Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church and is known as a gift ed preacher, teacher, coun selor and mentor. Union Bethel A.M.E. Church is at 1716 Richard Rev. Peterson Allen Lane (N. Trade Street). The Rev. Chalice E. Overy is ' the pastor. Rev. Konnie Robinson will take part. City wide revival to start on Sept. 23 SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE The Fourth Annual City Wide Revival Conference will be held Sept. 23-26 at 7:30 p.m. at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church. The theme is "Praise Is What I Do," and the Worship Leader is Dr. Nelson McCall of New Beginnings Christian Church. The speakers are: - Sept. 23, Pastor Stacey Frazier of Friendship Baptist Church; - Sept. 24, Pastor Konnie f Robinson of Union Chapel Baptist Church; Sept. 25, Minister Carolyn Ervin of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church; and; - Sept. 26, Pastor Darryl Napper Sr. of New Calvary Baptist Church of Greensboro. Easter Sunrise Services Committee, which is headed by Jerry C. Gilmore III, are sponsoring the services.
