TO I HhC HKOMC li North Carolina A&T Stale University will ha\e a ceremony to welcome its 12th Chancellor, Dr. Harold L Martin Sr,, on Tuesday, June 23. The "Welcome Celebration," will be held at b p.m. in front of the historic Dudley Building, located on University Circle, Students, faculty, staff, alumni, com munity and business leaders, and supporters are expected to be on hand to greet the new leader. Martin, an N.C. A&T graduate, began serving as chancellor of his alma mater on June 8, Prior to coming to the institution, the Winston-Salem native had served since 2006 as senior vice president for academic affairs of the multi-campus Dr. Harold Martin and his wife. Martin has also served as chancellor of Winston Salem State University. He is returning to A&T. where he joined the faculty in 1980. was named chairman of the department of electri cal engineering in 1985. dean of the College of Engineering in 1989 and vice chancellor for academic affair}. in 1994. Martin received his undergraduate and master's degrees in electrical engi neering from A&T and a doctorate in the field from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He is married to Davida Martin, an A&T alumna who serves as coun ty attorney for Forsyth County. They have two sons. Harold Jr. and Walter. V : ; V The Presbyterian Men of Dellabrook Church. 115 Dellabrook Road, will host an African-American Men's Health and Wellness program June 25-28. The event will be moderated by Elder Emery C . Rann III; Dr. David Mount is the program chair. On Thursday. June 25, from 6:30 - 8 p.m.. the focus will be on prevention, education, awareness, physical activity and nutrition treatment. African- American men and cancer will be discussed, as well as health changes that come with aging. The health video, "Unnatural Causes" will also be shown. On Friday June 26. from 6:30 - 8 p.m., there will be a discussion on African-American men and diabetes, hyper tension. stroke and HIV/AIDS and another showing of "Unnatural Causes." On Saturday June 27, from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., there will be talk on the Obama administration's healthcare reform plan. The theme of the day will focus on "From Boys to Men" and CPR training and blood donation information. Those who wish top view "Unnatural Causes" can also do so. "It's important for us spiritually and as a community to educatc and help people become aware of the many factors that take husbands from wives, fathers from children, and sons from parents and brothers from sisters all too soon," said Rann. Men's Day at Dellabrook on Sunday June 28 at 11 a.m. will continue framing the agenda by connecting health care, human rights and social justice. During the service, pioneer ing black male doctors James Jones, Harvey Allen Sr., Willard McCloud Sr., Charlie Kennedy and Jonathan Weston, will be honored. Special recognition will also be paid to Coach Sean Hawkins of Mineral Springs Middle School and his male basketball players and track athletes. The seven males in Carter G.
