Moses went back to God (in prayer) to get clarity. God told him to go back to Pharaoh and say; "Let My People Go." God even went so far as to tell His messenger how the peo ple were to leave Egypt. God kept His Promises to Moses. The ten plagues came (chap ters 7-11) forcing the leader to free the Israelite people. They celebrated the first Passover in chapter 12, dur ing that last plague. Some two million people were led out of bondage headed toward the Red Sea and their Promised Land (Canaan). They carried all that they had, for there was no turning back (!!!). They were guided by a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire at night . Lesson: Moving two million people is no easy task nor is it very fast. God also tells Moses exactly where to camp. Pharaoh has a change of heart and decides to retrieve his work force. Rounding up all of his chariots, horsemen, and troops they head out after them. Needless to say, when the Israelites see the approaching Egyptians they turn to Moses. He attempts to calm their fears by encouraging them to watch God's deliverance as they stand still. They're in the desert with mountains on both sides facing the Red Sea with the Egyptians at their backs. Things appear grave as they cry out to Moses. God wants to know why, since He's given them all that they need. His response seems a bit harsh but God wants them to have faith in His mighty power. He's kept His Promises before. The instructions to Moses are strange yet very simple: "Raise ypur staff and stretch out your hand." Even Moses is beginning to realize and appreciate God's power. The sea opens up!! The other amazing phenom ena is the pillar of cloud now stands between the Israelites and the Egyptians. The sea bed is dry as they cross over all night long while the enemies don't have a clue. Once they real ize what is taking place, they are in hot pursuit. God stirs confusion amongst the Egyptians as the wheels of the chariots come off. The pursuers get scared as the God of the Israelites gives the next set of instructions. As daybreak comes, the sea walls collapse and Pharaoh's army is drowned! Now God's Chosen People wit nessed their deliverance and begin to fear (revere) the Lord (14:31). Application: The Lord God Almighty said it, and it is so! What more can you ask for? The deliverance is. joyous, but the people are kicking and screaming the whole time! Guess what? It doesn't stop there. God "with His Good Self (Mrs. Elizabeth Young) continues to deliver us from our pharaohs in the midst of our doubts, complaints and fears, What did they do to contribute to their freedom? As God delivers them from the enemy, they stood still. This is not literal. Preparations were made; they followed Moses' instruction for the Passover. When the freedom decree is issued, they packed their belongings to head out of bondage. God doesn't advo cate sitting on a stump! At some point we are/were cap tive to some physical, emo tional. financial or spiritual bondage. God calls us out of all of them, delivering us over and over. The next time trouble of any kind comes in your life. Remember that God delivers. Not only remember His past deeds, but recognize His eternal power and live your faith. Stop complaining and don-'t panic. You know Who is in charge!! Union from page 112 time Christian ministry.
