Web site launched for ' 1 0 ACC Football Championship SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE The official Web site < www. acc foot ballcharlotte .c om) for next year's Charlotte ACC Football Championship Game was launched last week, allow ing fans to pre-register for tickets to the much-antici pated event. Football Champibnship games will be played in Charlotte on Dec. 4. 2010 and Dec. 3, 201 1 at Bank of America Stadium, home of the Carolina Panthers and the Meineke Car Care Bow l. Ticket packages will go on sale to the public on Feb.l4 2010, and bo sold through the Web site: Individual tickets will go on sale through TicketMaster on March 15. 2010. Prices begin at $25 and S40 for Upper Level tickets. Lower Level tickets w ill be $70 and $90. Club Level tickets will be SI 50 and $175 and are Event Honorary Co-Chair Hugh McCoH Jr. only available through ticket packages. "Everyone associated with the ACC Football Championship Game Local Organizing Committee is extremely excited to announce the dates that tick ets will be on sale to the public." said Executive ? Director Will . Webb. "The ACT Championship coming to Charlotte is a result of a lot of hard work by many people working together to secure this opportunity for the city and the community. Officially putting tickets on sale will be another mile stone in the history of Charlotte." Charlotte civic leaders Harvey Gantt and Hugh McColl Jr. have agreed to serve as honorary chairper sons for the inaugural game. Gantt. a renowned archi tect and politician, served as Mayor of Charlotte from (983-1987: He is a co founder and partner of Charlotte-based Gantt Huberman Architects. He served on the Charlotte City Council'from 1974-1983. McColl is the retired CEO of Bank of America. From 1982-2001. he led the bank to national prominence and growth, resulting in onfe of the largest banks in the nation. He launched McColl Partners, an investment banking firm, in 2001 . SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE Devin Cherry fired a round of 68 as he secured individual medalist honors en route to leading the Winston Salem State University men's golf team to a total of 3 1 7 and a fourth place finish at the HBCU Golf Invitational at Browns Mill Golf Club in Atlanta on Sunday. Cherry's stellar round, a four under par 68 on the 6.539-yard course earned him the Rams' first-ever individ ual medalist honors as he fin ished first overall in the field of 93 golfers from 18 histori cally black institutions. Head Coach ' Robert Bethea's Rams not only an impressive performance from Cherry, but received a round of 76 from Kevin Veach and saw Michael Asbury and Steven Mason shoot rounds in the 80s with rounds of 83 and 89 respectively, as WSSU posted a team total of 317. Kenneth Lathan closed out the Rams' scoring, with a round of 91 as the WSSU golfers turned in a record-set ting performance. Benefitting from Cherry's first career individual medal ist honors, the Rams finished ahead of MEAC rivals Hampton University, Florida A&M and South Carolina State and narrowly missed winning the team' tourna ment, as they were only 15 strokes off of the lead set by Jackson State, who turned in a team-best total of 302. The Rams will attempt to build upon their highest over all finish as they take to the course on Nov. 7-9 at Henderson Golf Club in Savannah. Ga. at the Savannah State University Tiger Invitational.
