on those events for today.
Lesson: We know the
story of Jesus' birth For
today, let's approach it dif
ferently. First of all, we see
God calling two very
insignificant people accord
ing to society's standards for
a great task Mary is highly
favored by God just because
He chooses her. There are
some interesting points
about her. She questions the
angel and then accepts the
call. Facing her family's
wrath, ostracism b> the
community, and death by
stoning, she trusts God! Too
often, we get lost in soci
ety's standards for greatness
instead of simply trusting
the Master. Is trust a part of
your character? Joseph faces
a dilemma as well. Like
Mary, he faces some grave
issues. His espoused is preg^
nant and it isn't his child . He
has options, but which one is
the best for both of them?
Notice how he plans to han
dle it. His aim is to save his
reputation and hers to a cer
tain degree. God steps in
when we begin to stray from
His plan, but it is our choice
to follow Him. After
encountering the angel, like
Mary, Joseph is obedient to
God's instruction and knew
her not until after the birth.
Application: God uses
ordinary people to accom
plish His Will. Since leaving
Egypt, the Chosen People
experienced God's presence
first in the Tabernacle and
then later in the Temple. At
times. He'd get fed up with
their behavior and withdrew
from them. God sends His
Son, promising to be with
them always. This child will
be the supreme atonement
for all of humanity. A meg" *> -
human couldn t do this. It
has to be a .divine human to
accomplish this! Being
fathered by the Holy Spirit,
born through Mary and
raised by Joseph makes Him
fully human and divine.
Careful study of His min
istry reveals His character -
love, nurturing, and a men
tor for all. Yes,
Emmanuel/Immanuel is
born, and we're never alone
again!
May the joy of this
birth refresh your souls
and bring you peace.
Hallelujah Amen!
