Democratic fundraiser
Tickets are on sale for the
Forsyth County Democratic
Party's Annual Gala, which
will feature keynote speaker
James "Jim" Clyburn. U.S.
House of Representatives Ma
jority Whip. The 2010 Gala's
theme is "Moving Forward in
Harmony with Democratic
Rhythms," and will take place
on July 10 at 7 p.m. in the
Grand Pavilion Ballroom at the
Embassy Suites Hotel. 460 N.
Cherry St. Entertainment is
being provided by the Charlie
Culbreath Trio.
The annual semi-formal
Gala is the organization's
largest fundraising event of the
year. Tickets are $60/persori
and S480/table. A pre -event re
ception with Clyburn will take
place at the home of Redge and
Jane Hanes in Pfafftown from
5-6:30 p.m. Tickets for the VIP
Reception are $250.

Film screening
The International Civil
Rights Center and Museum in

Pearl Sharp's award winning
documentary "The Healing
Passage. Voices from the
Water" on Friday. July 23 at

will be present for a post
screening dialog. The

Sharp will also sign her book
"Black Women for
Beginners" in Greensboro at

Students create dream playhouse for disabled boy

designed just for him by

University students
Master's of Occupational
Therapy students spent a day
last week installing furni
ture. playthings and decora
tions in the new playhouse
for JaRavion. who has spe
cial needs. The three-year
old is visually impaired and
born with schizencephaly, a
brain abnormality, and spas
tic cerebral palsy. The play
house was built in the back
yard of the Clemmons fami
ly's home as a project of
