Sealed Single Prime Bids will be received by Davidson
County Board of Education, in the Palmer House EC
Conference Room at 250 County School Road, Lexington.
NC 27293-2057, on November 9, 2010 until 2:00pm at which
time Bids will be opened and read publicly for the construc
tion of the following Project:
New Davidson County Middle School
Midway, North Carolina
Bids will be received Single-Prime only and will include gen
eral construction, pluipbing, HVAC, electrical, and all work
indicated by the Bidding Documents.

in the office of Walter Robbs Callahan & Pierce Architects
PA, 530 North Trade Street, Suite 301 Winston-Salem, North
Carolina 27101 (336-725-1371), in the Charlotte office of
McGraw Hill, in the Triad and Charlotte offices of the
Associated General Contractors of America, and on line
through Reed Construction Data.
The Project consists of:
The construction of a new one story middle school on approx
imately a 40 acre site recently purchased by the Davidson
County Board of Education at the intersection of Midway
School Road and Hoy Long Road. The new school totals
approximately 138,000 square feet. The structure is load bear
ing masonry with steel open web joists and metal decking.
Exterior walls include face brick with CMU backup, hollow
metal frames and doors, aluminum storefront, aluminum cur
tain wall and aluminum windows. All roofing is standing
seam metal. The mechanical system is water source heat
pumps on mechanical mezzanines piped from cooling towers.
Site work includes concrete walks and pads, asphalt paving,
curb & gutters, utility work and grassing. Also included is a
pre-engineered metal storage building of approximately 2,000
square feet. Sanitary sewer will be provided by an onsite lift
station being constructed under separate contract.
The project is proposed to be funded with QSCB funds and is
therefore subject to the Davis-Bacon prevailing wage rates.
The bidder is expected to have reviewed and made them
selves familiar with the regulations, record keeping and
reporting procedures in order to comply with applicable reg
ulations. The successful contractor and all subcontractors per
forming work on the project are required to establish daily
jobsite records, compare and verify all employees working on
the project are accounted for and included in the mandatory
weekly certified payrolls.
In accordance with GS 133-3 procedures the following items
are being considered as preferred alternates by the Owner for
this project:

A pre-bid meeting will be held for all interested bidders and
vendors on October 26, 2010 at 3:00pm in the Davidson
County Board of Education Board Room. Project specific
questions, bidding procedures, preferred brand alternates,
performance specifications. Federal Wages, Davis Bacon Act
and HUB information will be addressed for this project.
All Contractors must have proper license in accordance with
General Statutes of North Carolina Chapter 87. General
Statutes of North Carolina Chapter 87 will be observed in
receiving and awarding all Contracts.
Qualified General Contractors may obtain two copies of the
Bidding Documents from the Architect upon deposit of $400
per set. Partial sets of documents will not be issued. The full
deposit will be returned to all Bidders upon return of the
Bidding Documents in good usable condition within 10 days
after the date set for receipt of Bids. After 10 days, the
Bidder's deposit will be forfeited. Additional copies of the
Bidding Documents or individual sheets or Specification sec
tions may be obtained directly from the Sharpe Company in
Winston-Salem, NC 336-724-2871 . The purchase price from
the Sharpe Company is non-refundable. Refundable deposit
is applicable to General Contractors only. All others will
be required to purchase any documents that they request
Bidders shall use complete sets of Bidding Documents in
preparing Bids; neither the Owner nor Architect assumes
responsibility for errors or misinterpretations resulting from
the use of incomplete sets of Bidding Documents.
Contractors are hereby notified that the Davidson County .
Board of Education has a verifiable Ten Percent ( 10%) goal
for participation by minority businesses in the total value of
wotii for which a contract or contracts are awarded pursuant I
to N.C.G.S. Section 143-128 Minority percentages will not
be the basis for determining the low bidder All minority
businesses are encouraged to participate in bidding this proj
ect.
Each proposal shall be accompanied by a Bid Guarantee of
five percent (5%) of the bid in cash, certified check or a fully
executed Bid Bond The deposit shall be retained by the
Owner if the successful bidder fails to execute the contract
within ten (10) days after award or fails to give satisfactory
surety as required herein. (General Statutes of North
Carolina. Chapter 143. Article 8, Section 129.)
A Payment and Performance Bond will be required each in
the sum equal to 100% of the cost of the project.
No Bidder may withdraw his Bid within 45 days after the
scheduled closing time for the receipt of bids
The Owner reserves the right to accept or reject any or all
Bids, and to waive informalities. This project is contingent
upon QSCB funding
