FIESTA a huge success once again SPfcCIAI It) THE CHRONIC 1.1 More than 15,0<K) people attended The Hispanic League's Annual FIESTA on Saturday, Sept. 25, the organization announced recently. All proceeds from the event will benefit com munity programming and scholarships for local Hispanic/Latino undergrad uates. Attendees came to dance to live music by Orquesta GarDel. Sonora Dinamita. Mariachi Mexico 2000, and Raza Alterada, as well as to see traditional folkloric dances performed by Ballet Folklorico Guadalupano and Magetsi Folkloric. Fiesta also provided the opportuni ty to try great food from Central and South America, margaritas and beer at the Beer Garden, and the oppor tunity to buy arts and crafts from local artisans. The Children's area drew the largest crowd ever with its pinatas, games, face paint ing. balloon sculpting, moon walk and more. II, I Thomas competing for Miss Jr. Teen Greensboro title SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE " Kiara Thomas of Winston-Salem was recently selected to participate in the 2010 Miss Jr. Teen Greensboro pageant competi tion that will take place on Oct. 23. She was chosen after she submitted an application and took part in an interview session with the event coordinator. Thomas w ill be competing for her share of thousands of dollars in prizes and specialty gifts. She will compete in the Miss Jr. Teen division, one of tour divisions for young ladies between the ages of 7 and 19. The contest ants will perform modeling routines in casu 1 I f al wear and formal wear: and display their personalities during the interview portion of the pageant. Personality is the number one aspect that each contestant is judged on during all phases of competition The winner will represent Greensboro and the surrounding communities at a national competition that will take place in Orlando.
