SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE More than 140 schools from 26 states were repre sented recently at Wake Forest University for a national debate and speech competition. Paisley/Parkland IB Magnet Schools Debate Team performed well. Matias Silva reached the quarterfinals in the Junior Varsity Lincoln-Douglas competition, while Patrick "Bo" Kane reached the semi-finals in the same com petition. Overall the Paisley/Parkland team ranked 39th out of the 140 participating schools in one of the largest high school debate competitions in the country. All members of the team worked very hard to compete in this prestigious competition. The team's coach is Jett Whitmer. City will use grant for environmental center SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE The Duke Energy Foundation has made a S 10.000 grant to the city of Winston-Salem to underwrite start-up costs for the Winston Salem Sustainability Resource Center. which will show locals how to con serve and uphold natural resources. It will be staffed by interns working on the city's sustainability program. Jimmy Flythe, the director of govern ment and community relations for the north ern region of Duke Energy, presented the check to city representatives Saturday at the city's GoExpo Sustainability festival. The EPA has begun writing regulations to manage greenhouse gases under the Clean Air Act. But existing law does not allow the EPA to consider economic impact. That is the role of Congress. Contact Congress and tell them not to let the EPA do significant harm to our already struggling economy. Ask them to reform the energy policy to consider both environmental and economic impact.
