Chi Eta Phi Sorority celebrates Founder's Day
SPECIAL TO THE CHRONIC! I
Triad chapters of Chi Eta Phi Sorority,
Inc. joined chapters around the world in a
celebration of the sorority's Founder's Day
on Sunday. Oct. 16.
Chi Eta Phi - an organization of more
than 8.000 registered professional nurses
and nursing students (male and female) -
was founded in 1932.
There are more than 90 graduate chapters
and 50 undergraduate chapters located in 26
states in America, the District of Colombia,
St. Thomas US Virgin Islands and Monrovia
Liberia, West Africa.
The charter chapter. Alpha, was organ
ized at Freedmen's Hospital (Howard
University Hospital) in Washington, D.C. by
12 dedicated nurses, including Founder
Aliene Carrington Ewell.
Winston-Salem's Chi Chi Chapter hosted
this year's local celebration, which included
the Sigma Chi, Sigma Chi Beta and Sigma
Chi Alpha Beta Chapters of Greensboro and
the Chi Chi Beta Chapter of Winston-Salem
State University. A ceremony was held at
Winston-Salem State and a fellowship din
ner took place at the Village Tavern on
Hanes Mall Boulevard.

recipient of the award since
it was first presented in
2000. The Alumni
Association describes Dr.
Mack "as a wildly popular
pastor whose dynamic per
sonality has brought
Christian teachings and prin
ciples to people well beyond
his native Winston-Salem
and Union Baptist Church."
The award came on the
heels of Dr. Mack's 12th
pastoral anniversary at
Union Baptist, where Mack
has built a sterling reputa
tion for his many innovative
church and community ini
tiatives.
Mack's devotion to his
community and his church
are matched only by his love
for his wife, Kim Romaine
Bush, a 1987 Elon alumna
whom he married in May.
