Religion Cantata to honor memory of Smith SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE The Sanctuary Choir of Greater First United Baptist Church, along with other area church choirs, will present its annual Easter Cantata, "The Seven Last Words of Christ" by ^? Theodore Dubois, on Sun day, March 25 at 6 p.m. This year, the Cantata is presented in fond memory of the Sanctuary Choir's former director James u. ^mitn, wno passed away last June. The choir is now under the di rection of Madeline S. McKoy. Guest performers will include soloists Kathy W. Anderson, soprano; Albert Palmer, tenor; and Eddie Bines Jr., baritone. Instrumentalists will in clude organist Marion "Pete" Thomas and pianist Julie Owens Hunter. Her bert Wiley will serve as the narrator. The public is invited to attend. SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE The harmony trio Brother Sun will perform at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 4055 Robinhood Road, at 7:30 p.m. on March 24. The concert is open to the public. A donation of $15 is request ed. The trio, comprised of Joe Jencks, Greg Greenway and Pat Wictor, com bines musical skills and the best of male singing traditions on a well crafted foundation of guitar, slide a ' A A guitar and piano. According to Chicago radio personality Rich Warren, the group's sound is irre sistable. "What happens when you unite three of the best male singers in the folk realm who already revel in har mony singing? Brother Sun!," says Warren. A&T to host music industry workshop, gospel showcase SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE The North Carolina A&T State University School of Business and Economics has partnered with the broad cast voice of N.C. A&T - WNAA-FM - to present a one-day workshop about the music business. The event will take place in the Memorial Union - Stalling Ballroom on Saturday, March 24 from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. Workshop attendees will have the opportunity to learn about starting their own music business, protecting their product, branding and opportunities in the gospel music industry. The workshop is designed for current and aspiring music entrepreneurs such as songwriters, pro ducers, musicians, promotion specialists, gospel music artists, DJs and others. Hospital hires faith VP SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center has appoint ed the Rev. Dr. Gary R. Gunderson vice president of Faith and Health Ministries, effective July 1. Gunderson, a 1973 gradu ate 'of Wake Forest University, is currently sen ior vice president for faith and health at Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare in Memphis, Tenn. and director of its Center of Excellence in Faith and Health. "Gary's work, particular ly his ability to understand and meet t h e needs o f patients in the c o m - munity, has been n i z e d nationally and international ly," said *Dr. John D. McConnell, chief executive officer of Wake Forest Baptist. "His model, which brings together patient need with services within the com munity, coincides with Wake Forest Baptist's mission to provide a full range of caring and healing to those that we serve." As head of the Division of Faith and Health Ministries at Wake Forest Baptist, Gunderson will over see the division's four departments (CareNet Counseling, the Department of Chaplaincy and Pastoral Education, the Center for Congregational Health and the Department of Church and Community Relations) that provide spiritual care services to patients, families and medical center employ ees as well as manage mar keting and public relations services to more than 4,200 Baptist congregations. Gunderson's care model in Memphis extended broad ly into the full range of faith traditions and he believes the opportunity at Wake Forest Baptist is substantial. The academic strengths of the Wake Forest School of Divinity and the Division of Public Health with the lead ing-edge clinical strengths of the system can be aligned with the rich diversity of faith in the state of North Carolina to make a profound and lasting difference to the health of the whole commu nity.
