Known as the
Mother Church,
Macedonia

nunness was
founded in April 1925. Dr.
Robert L. Wise Sr. is the
Dr. Wise
General Overseer and pastor
and has served those capaci
ties for 51 years.
Macedonia has
had only one other
pastor in its histo
ry, Mother J. B.
Levan, who served
for 36 years.
Wise was born
in Winston-Salem
on Dec. 9, 1935 to
the late Herbert
Willie and
Roberta Elizabeth
Wise. In May
1965, he pioneered radio
broadcasting with the show
"The Kingdom of God
(JESUS) Is Within You" on
WAAA. He hosted the show
for 36 "uninterrupted" years
until the station went off the
air in 2001.
He worked exceedingly
hard to build up and develop
the Carver Road community,
which was once a rural,
wooded area. Dr. Wise, who
founded Macedonia #2 in
Greensboro, has also helped
many people begin, build
and continue their ministries.
Dr. Wise received his
Doctor of Divinity degree in
June 1981 and a Doctor of
Sacred Theology degree in
November 1983.
He is a member of the
Apostolic World Christian
Fellowship, Inc. and has
Golden Heritage and Life
memberships in the NAACP.
He also holds the member
ship honor of "pentecostal
trailblazer" in the Triad
Pentecost Network.
Omegas pick Talent Hunt winner

The Psi Phi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity held its Annual
Talent Hunt on Sunday, March 11 on the campus of Winston
T Salem State University in the Anderson Center.
This event is held annually to showcase local young talent,
r Participants compete to win cash prizes as well as gain expo
l sure. The winner then competes at the Sixth District Meeting
I B for an opportunity to perform during the Conclave.
B This year's participants were University of North Carolina
School of the Arts students Sarah Huesman, a cellist; Patricia
Tanzer, an organist; and Dean Oaks, a trumpeter. Rebecca Bell,
^^a flautist, also competed. She attends North Forsyth High
School. Each contestant performed a classical /semi-classical
piece.
Huesman won with her performance of "Concerto in A Minor"
by Camille Saint-Saens. She won $300. Bell came in second,
| winning $200. She was followed by Oaks and 4th-place winner
f Tanzer. Huesman will now compete at the District meeting to
be held in Greenville S.C on Friday, April 27.

He has earned degrees

College and the Shaw
Divinity School.
He has an
Honorary Doctor
of Divinity
degree from the
South Eastern
University in
Greenville, S.C.
During his
decades in the
ministry. Dr.
Brown has pas
tored several
churches, includ
ing the Mt. Gilbert Baptist
Church in Scotland Neck,
Jerusalem Baptist Church in
Whitakers, White Oak
Baptist Church in Enfield
and Elm Grove Baptist
Brown
Church in Reidsville. He
came to New Light Baptist
Church in 1975.
He is married to Diane
Pierce Brown; they have
daughters: Michelle, Tonya,
Kimberly, and one son,
Cardes III. He is also the
proud grandfather of five.

FOR THE PROPOSED WIDENING OF U.S. 158

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will hold two citi
zens informational workshops regarding a proposed project to widen U.S. 158 to
a multi-lane roadway, from U.S. 421 / Interstate 40 Business in Winston-Salem to
U.S. 220 in Guilford County. The previous project workshops were held in 2006.
These US 158 improvement workshops will provide updated project information
and allow the public to view potential study corridors for the Stokesdale Bypass.
NCDOT representatives will provide information and answer questions from 4-7
p.m. at the following locations:
* Tuesday, April 10,2012 at the Stokesdale Town Hall, 8325 Angel Pardue Road,
Stokesdale.
* Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at the Walkertown Middle/High School, 5240
Sullivantown Road, Walkertown.
Some local intersecting roads on the project include Belews Creek Road (State
Road 1965), OI^l Flatrock Road (S.R. 2011), Rail Fence Road (S.R. 2009), Goodwill
Church Road (S.R. 1971), Kernersville Road (S.R. 1962), Piney Grove Road (S.R.
1969), N.C. 66, N.C. 65 and N.C. 68.
The opportunity to submit written comments will be provided during the work
shop. Interested citizens may attend at any time during the above hours. Citizens
are invited to attend either workshop. There will not be a formal presentation, and
the same information will be available at both workshops.
