Stars from page HI to good causes, and I think that's a good use of the office," said Joines. Many of the stars had a challenge fitting the practices into their busy schedules. Take Derwin Montgomery, who in addition to rep resenting the East Ward on the City Council is a graduate student and pastor of First Calvary Baptist Church. It was hard for him to find time to learn the foxtrot with his part ner, but he said the end result is well worth it. "A lot of non-profits have to shift to doing stuff like this to meet that bottom line, so I'm glad I could participate in it," said Montgomery. Fox 8 News reporter Nicole Ferguson also struggled to find time to practice. In fact, even being awake for the competition was a little bit of a challenge. She works from 3 a.m. to noon, so on a normal Thursday evening, she would've been asleep before the fundraiser even began. "It's been challenging, but it's been so fun that you forget about that," said Ferguson, who performed a "Cha Cha" dance. Courtney Legins, a group exercise instructor at the Fulton Family YMCA, has ? helped CISFC raise funds before by leading | a Zumbathon fundraiser. This time, she ' donned a bright pink wig and matching poo dle skirt - which won her the best costume award - for a swing dance. She praised CISFC and its mission. ^'Anything that's geared towards helping the Vouth be more successful in the future is Emcee Kia Hood (left) presents a best per formance award to Evette Clemons and Chris Engle. an organization worth supporting and a good cause," said Legins. Also during the competition, Terri Bost of Stokes 4-H danced to the La Pantera Mambo, and Winston-Salem Journal Relish editor Susan Gilmor, who did a waltz, won Outstanding Commitment awards for raising the most money.
