Russell Sr. Community Center are among the many this week mourning the passing of radio personality AC Stone. Alvin Stowe, known to listeners of 97.1 QMG as AC Stone, died Saturday after a battle with leukemia. For many years, Stowe helped Russell Center Supervisor Ben Piggott with the Christmastime Peace Toys for War Toys exchange program. His smiling face greeted some of the thousands of children who received toys through the program. "AC Stone will always be remembered as one of the voices who pushed non-violence among children and the community," said Piggott, organizer and founder of Peace Toys for War Toys. Stowe, who has served as a mentor to students studying communications at Winston-Salem State and was an ordained minister at Spencer Memorial Christian Church in Winston-Salem, leaves behind his wife, Sabrina, and four children. His funeral is scheduled for today (June 28) at 1 p.m. at Union Baptist Church, 1200 N. Sethos Court #105 Daughters of Isis awards scholarships SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE Members of Sethos Court #105 Daughters of Isis recently presented book scholarships to Cherina McKnight of Parkland Magnet School and Chloe Wilborn of Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy. The scholarships for $250 each were pre sented to the students at their respective schools during Senior Awards Day. The money will help McKnight, who will attend Wake Forest University in the fall, and Wilborn, who is headed to East Carolina University, buy textbooks. Also, Illustrious Commandress Eva McWillis presented the N.C. Desert Scholarship in the amount., of $1,000 to Treyaun Fulton, who will attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Daughter Hattie B. Fulton is the chair of the Scholarship Committee. The Forsyth County delegation were among more than 200 youth and adults represent ing more than 75 4-H programs across the state gathered to exchange ideas, gain knowledge ana learn tnrougn nanas on experiences about the different levels and branches"of government. Delegates also worked witn their county 4-H Agent to develop an action plan based on a local need in their community to implement upon returning home from the conference. The highlight of the conference was the Legislative Breakfast, where delegates had a chance to meet and have photos taken with their elected officials.
