Alphas Support College Students Alpha Phi Alpha's MphTpi Lambda Chapter recently pre sented SlfiOO scholarships to Reynolds High School gradu ates Reid Warren and Damien Booe. Here,Reid, who will attend Syracuse University, is given the scholarship by Alpha Pi Lambda President Emery Rann (left) and Scholarship Chair Lawrence Lipscomb. Booe will attend Campbell University. His mother, Diane Booe (pictured above), accept ed the scholarship on his behalf. Events to honor late wife and mother CHRONICLE STAFF REPORT A benefit conceit featuring The Napper Singers will be held on Sunday, Aug. 26 at 4 pjn. to benefit the Tori B. Cole r? J.*: ruuiiuaiiuii. The non-profit organization was founded in 2011 by Rosemary Napper, the sister of Terri B. Cole, who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2009 and died after a two year battle with die disease. Cole was a wife, mother of two and an active mem ber of New Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. 11k Foundation works to to educate women as well as the community at laige about the signs and symptoms of ovarian can cer. There are few early detection tests for ovarian cancer, so more than 80 percent of women are diagnosed in later stages, when their chances of survival are significantly lower. The Foundation, which believes that "No One Fights Alone," also provides financial assistance to women and families affected by this disease and partnen with other 11 ? ? ? t. local community organizations ?u raise awareness about this silent killer. The Foundation has gotten involved in the fight by hosting two Zumba benefits, a raffle and providing finan cial assistance to a 78-year old female who had been diagnosed with cancer. It will hold the 2012 Italy's Walk for the Cure on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 9 ajn. The three-mile walk will begin at the Marketplace Mall. The registra don fee is $10.
