CaU 336-399-6731 for more infor mation. aseCJmasroaM Farrakhan to mark MMM anniversary in Charlotte SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE Nation of Islam leader the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan will speak in Charlotte on Sunday, Oct. 14 to mark the 17th anniversary of the Million Man March. It was Farrakhan who called for black men from across the nation to come together in Washington, D.C. on Monday, Oct. 16, 1995 to demonstrate their will ingness to shoulder the responsibity of imprioving themeselves and their commu nities. Each year, Farrakhan reiterates the themes of the historic march during anniversary addresses. The topic of his Charlotte presentation is: "Muhammad's Economic Blueprint: Ending Poverty & Want." It will be given at the Bojangles Coliseum, 2700 E. Independance Blvd., beginning at 2 p.m. (though doors open at noon). Tickets start at $20. Holiness Church to convene Assembly SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE General Bishop Arnie H. Joyce will call together the 95th General Assembly of the Holiness Church of God, Inc., from Monday, Oct. 1 - Sunday, Oct. 7, at Kimberly Park Ho'iness Church, 1640 SM Caesar Drive. Elder Robert R. Edmond Jr. is the host pastor. Bishop Joyce will be assisted by First Vice-Bishop Theodore R. Rice, Second Vice-Bishop James Ijames and the Elders Board of the Holiness Church of God, Inc. The Assembly will convene at 10 ajn. on Oct.l. Other activi ties that day include a 7:30 p.m. gathering, where the entire assem bly and gener al public con vene to hear from Overseer Benjamin Brogdon. Speakers on Oct. 2 will include Ruling Elder James McCallum at 2 p.m. and Overseer Eugene Kirby at 7:30. There will be a meeting with all pastors and General Bishop Arnie H. and Mrs. Joyce ordained ministers at 10 a.m., 11 ajn., 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 3. The keynote speakers will be Vice Ruling Elder Noah Bullard, Overseer Eugene Paramore and Overseer David Terry. Stephens, pastor of Cornerstone of Faith Ministries, will be among the performers at Gospel rest at the Dixie Classic hair. Ine event, sponsored by The Chronicle, will be held on Sept. 30 and Oct. 7 from 3-6 pm. at the Clock Tower. Stephens and his group, Nu Sound, will perform on Sept. 30. He has just released his CD, "From Rain to Reign." Prior to accepting the pastorate at Cornerstone, Stephens was the church's minister of music. The Detroit native is a renowned singer and musician. At age three, he began sing on choirs, local television shows and at hospitals and nursing homes with his grandfather, Rev. C.W. McMurry, pastor of Rescue Temple COGIC in Greensboro. His gifts have afforded him opportunities to play with gospel music greats such as Deitrick Haddon, TKfkM Grosjean L. Stephens Pastor Marvin Winans, Karen Clark Sheard, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Vickie Winans, Jackie Clark (of The Clark Sisters) and Waymond Tisdale. Trade St., will sponsor the "Get Out & Vote citywiae Revival on Wednesday, Oct. 3 and Thursday, Oct. 4 at 7 pjn. each night. Dr. John Mendez, pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church, will preach the first night, and N.C. NAACP President Rev. Dr. William Barber will preach on Oct. 4. Also at noon on Oct. 4. the Mtndtz Pastors, Politicians and Community Leaders Luncheon will be held, with guest speaker Mayor Allen Joines. The revival worship services are free and open to the public. Luncheon tickets can be purchased by call ing the church office 336-724-9305 x 222. The revival is a non-partisan program to encourage individuals to exercise their right to participate in the political process and to provide information to help people make knowledgeable decisions. Love Motivates All Actions Devotional Reading: John 13: 31-33 Lesson Scripture: Hebrews 13: 1-3; I Corinthians: 13 ' Lesson Aims: To define the love of God; to recognize its superiority over all things; and to begin to put aside those things that hinder us from loving. Background: A believer's faith can be observed in the manner in which they live, including their speech and in their attitudes. Since believers profess to follow God, they must love like Him! God is love and anything that is absent of love isn't from Him. The Greeks have three words for love - eros (to be in love with), philo (brotherly love), and agape (unconditional love). Our lesson today tar gets the latter two. Most of us talk about love, but do we practice it? We all want to be loved; but do we love? As believers become more and more like God, their love grows, mimicking Him in all of life's arenas. Lesson: The body of believers are to love and care for each other. This is brotherly love. Likewise, their hospitali ty should be shared with strangers. God gave/gives them grace and mercy; they have to extend it to others. Some
