C2C conference to feature Roland Martin SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE Union Baptist Church will host its 9th Annual Corner 2 Corner (C2C) Drug Dealers and Street Life Conference from Nov. 15 -18. The conference is designed to help indi viduals take the first steps in changing their lives of crime and substance abuse. Noted journalist Roland Martin will give the keynote address on the final day of the conference. Martin is a commentator for the TV One network and host and managing editor of "Washington Watch with Roland Martin." He is also a CNN analyst who appears on the network to discuss a variety of issues. Martin will speak on Sunday at the 11 a.m. worship service, which will include the C2C graduation ceremony. Yasmine Arlington, a PBS intern at Elon University and the founder of ScholarCHIPS (for Children of Incarcerated Parents), will speak at the 9 a.m. worship service. The conference starts today (Nov. 15) at 8 a.m. with a regis tration period and a breakfast. Participants may also register tomorrow, beginning at 8 a.m. A full schedule of nanel discussions, speeches and seminars are slat ed for both today and tomorrow. There will be a luncheon for program particpants after Sunday's graduation. "There are many hurting peo ple who need encouragement and need to know that God loves them and is not mad at them," she added. The daughter of Theresa H. D u r e n and the late James R. Duren, Daren Winfield has two daugh ters, Deborah and Lakeshia, and was married to the late Bennie L. Winfield Sr. At Kimberly Park, she serves as second assistant superintendent of the Sunday School, president of the Educational Department, president and director of the Mass Choir and vice-present of the Joy A Faith Club. She founded a lead ership academy in 2010 to teach leadership and professionalism skills to young people who are transitioning from high school to college and from college to the workplace. She is a summa cum laude graduate of N.C. AAT State University, where she earned a BS in business administration, a MS in adult education and a doctorate in leadership studies. She is a nationally and internationally published health disparities researcher. Duren-Winfleld is employed at Winston-Salem State University, where she is director of research in the School of Health Sciences and an assistant professor in the Healthcare Management program.
