Fraternity seeks community donations during sleep-out I SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE The Delta Alpha chapter of Phi Beta c: c T ? oigma riaicmiiy, inc. ai Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) will conduct its 16th annual overnight sleep-out for the homeless campaign beginning Nov. 16 at 6 p.m. near the Greek plots on campus. Activities will include the collection of nonper ishable food items, school supplies and clothing items for the homeless. The campaign culminates with the all night sleep-out to raise awareness about the homeless in the Piedmont. The fraternity will set up a makeshift cardboard city near the Phi Beta Sigma monument on the university'8 Greek plots, which are outside of the Cleon F. Thompson Student Services Center. Clothing items will tx donated to the Winston Salem Rescue Mission while the nonperishabh rood items will oc given to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina. The school supplies will be donated to Project Hope of the Winston-Salem/ Forsyth County School System, and the monetary donations will go to the Samaritan Ministries Annual Penny Campaign. In 2011, members collected 20 boxes of clothing and shoes, 1,567 pounds of non-perishable food items and $1,500 in cash. In 2010, members collected 31 boxes of clothing and shoes, 617 pounds of non-perishable food items and $381.75 in cash.
