Rob King Rob King elected head of auto dealers council SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE Robert L. "Rob" King III, the CEO of Bob King Automotive Group, has been named president of the Mazda National Advisory Dealer Council (NADC) for 2013. Mazda NADC repre sents more than 600 deal ers in North America in the areas of governance and factory relationships. King was elected in October at a meeting of national dealers in Irvine, Calif. winston-Salem-based Bob King Automotive Group, founded in 1968, is a franchised automo bile dealer representing Hyundai, Kia, Mazda and Mitsubishi. The company is a leader in the automo tive industry, consistently winning sales and service awards. King most recently served'on the Mitsubishi National Dealer Advisory Council, one of five deal ers appointed to represent 400 automobile dealers. King has also completed service on the Hyundai National Dealer Council and KIA National Advisory Board. 80th birthday celebration held for twins 9 i " * ****** I SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE Ail 80th birthday cel ebration for twins Velma Dulin and Thelma Carpenter was held Saturday at the Anderson Center on the campus of Winston-Salem State University. The celebration was hosted by Velma Dulin's daughter, Patricia "Pat" Norris and her husband, Robert Norris. Pat Norris, a former chief of the Winston-Salem Police Department, is the head of the police force at WSSU. Darryl Carpenter, Thelma Carpenter's son, and other family mem bers and friends of the women were on hand. The women have been inseparable all their lives. "I have always felt like the overseer of Velma since our mother died. She has been deaf and mute since birth, so I have always felt responsi ble for her, said Carpenter. "But don't get me wrong," Carpenter added as Dulin laughed, "Velma is very bossy and impa tient. She wants what she wants and she wants it i ? right then." Speaking for herself as well as her sister, Carpenter thanked, "The Lord for sparing our lives for all things are in His hands." ? The women also' extended a thank-you to their families, fiends and co-workers. "This is a blessing. Senior architectural engineer ing major Allison Townes got the opportunity to tour a multi-million dollar project, learn from success ful managers at Kiewit Corp. and create camaraderie with other women in this growing construc tion industry. Kiewit Corporation is a construction, mining and engi neering company. Townes' academic standing, her academic major and her expe nence in construction and engineering all contributed to her selection to the seminar. She spent last summer as an intern with the Advancing Minorities' Interest in Engineering partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Wiesbaden, Germany. She worked in the engineering and construction division, becoming familiar with the ongoing projects and learning the unique protocols for building in Germany.
