Michael Little earns Ph J).
SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE
Michael Lenard Little, a native of Winston-Salem and a graduate of North Forsyth Senior High School and
Winston-Salem State University, has received a docotorate in Biblical preaching from Newburgh Theological
Seminary in Newburgh Ind. Little completed his degree requirements last December. Commencement exercises
were held last month.
Little's dissertation, "A Limited Atonement for A New Generation!!!," dealt with the atonement of Christ.
He says that he hopes to soon convert it into a book that will inspire and educate both young and old people
alike.
He says he was called by God to pursue theological training, first at Shaw University Divinity School and
then at the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he received the Master of Divinity Degree.
Little is married to the former Mary Downing. He is the son of the late Joette Elizabeth Little, who was his
first theological leader and teacher. Little attributes much of his academic success to the prayers of his late
grandmother, Ochie B. Little, as well as those of the late Pastor David L. Wilson and his wife, Katie. His other
influences include his uncle, attorney and professor Larry D. Little, his cousin, Curtiss (Curt) R. Little, and his
former principals, men like the late Logan Burke and Vic Johnson.
"1 think that my academic turning point took place at Hanes High School when my cousin Curt (Curtiss
Little), as assistant principal, threw my behind in CDC for bad behavior, and my uncle Larry refused to help
me get my driver's license unless my grades improved," Little recalled. "I know that was the turning point for
me academically. I knew that these men weren't joking, so I concentrated and focused more on academics."
As a youngster, Little attended Union Bethel A.M.E. Church and Sovereign Grace Tabernacle (now
Sovereign Grace Chapel).
"I would like to thank all of my teachers, mentors, classmates, and anyone that encouraged and never gave
up on me along the way, especially Ms. Bohannon who taught me, as a slow learner, in reading lab at Vienna
Elementary School."
Little and his wife reside in Raleigh, where Little serves as an associate minister at Martin Street Baptist
Church.

and consecrated, including
the 24 men. Months later,
the caravan arrives in
Jerusalem safely.
After resting three
days, the gifts are taken to
the priests in the Temple
where they are weighed
and accounted for. The
next step is worship with a
bountiful (vs. 35) sacrifice.
The burnt offering symbol
izes their commitment to
God who is their Creator,
Deliverer, Protector and
Sustainer!
Application: Whatever
the value of the gifts was,
Artaxerxus II gave the
best. Remember now he
was a non-believer. What
does that say to all of those
who believe? Our gifts
(time, talents and tithes) to
God are more precious
than gold or silver. Do we
act like it? Is fasting and
praying for wisdom and
protection even thought
about when we give our
selves to His church? The
gifts that we bring come
from God and we can't
give a portion back? All
that we have is His in the
first place! Don't be
fooled, you did nothing by
yourself!
When we worship, it
should not be mere ritual
or a way to strengthen our
network with the "politi
cally correct folk." Careful
examination reveals that
worship IS NOT a day of
the week but a lifestyle! As
believers, do we give our
best or just a little dab?
God, who is love, gave His
best for us. If we are His
children, we have to follow
His lead by giving our best
daily.
