frontpage B4
can't see, does our faith
waiver? Isaiah lived some
600 years before Jesus'
birth. Yet, the prophet
gives a description of
David's descendant, who
will reign forever.
This Child to be born
as King will rule based
on justice and righteous
ness! Wonderful
Counselor points to His
leadership in govern
ment. He will be fair and'
not oppressive to the peo
ple. "The world will mar
vel at what He does"
(Zondervan's NIV Study
Bible). Mighty God
refers to His military
strength against enemies
yet. He will be a compas
sionate provider
(Everlasting Father). As
the Prince of Peace, this
Child will establish uni
versal peace that will last
forever! That's what the
Old Testament said.
Matthew records the
fulfillment of that prom
ise. This Gospel is specif
ically written to Greek
speaking Jews who need
to see that Jesus is
Messiah that was prom
ised long ago. The in
depth genealogy from
Abraham to David and
then to Joseph makes that
connection. This list
makes it clear that Joseph
is not the biological
father (husband of Mary)
but the legal descendant.
Joseph is hesitant about
his bride until an angel
reassures him that this is
God's doing. Being a
good Jew, Joseph knows
the prophecy.
Application: Aren't
we reminded about God's
promises on occasion?
There are times when sit
uations cloud our view
and God sends someone
or makes something hap
pen that gets us back on
track. God promised
David a long long time
ago about his legacy. God
kept the Promise!! He
always keeps His Word.
Do you trust Him in all
things? Over and over in
our lives, He has proven
His faithfulness to us.
With every faithful act by
Him, on our behalf and
on the behalf of others,
our trust in Him should
increase. Studying the
Word and praying should
also add to our faith in
Him. We need to get to
the point where we can
say without a doubt. "If
God said it - count it
done!"
