The National African-American Read-In During the month of February, schools, churches, libraries, bookstores, community and professional organizations, and interested citizens are urged to make literacy a significant part of Blade History Month by hosting an African American Read-In. Hosting an event can be as simple as bringing together friends to share a book, or as elaborate as arranging public readings and media presentations drat feature professional African American writers. The Read-In is a way to highlight the diversity of African-American writers through public readings of their work. 2015 marks the 26th year for this national event. Several selections will be read which highlight this theme. Partidpants can sign up to read or just come and listen. There will be brochures and other handouts for all ages celebrating literacy and the contributions of African-American writers. For more information, go to www.ncte.org/aari.
