Women's Fund group marks eighth anniversary SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE The ACEY Group of The Winston Salem Women's Fund celebrated its eighth anniversary with a luncheon at The Graze Restaurant of The Marriott Hotel. More than 40 women attended the luncheon, which had the theme "The Legacy of Women of Color." The luncheon speaker on Oct. 10 was Cheryl Harry, director of African-American Programming at the Old Salem Museums and Gardens. The ACEY Group, led by Dr. Betty A. Alexander, is a dynamic group of professional women that supports the mission of The Winston Salem Women's Fund, and who inde pendently has supported various groups in the community in an effort to enhance the lives of our women and girls. Wells Fargo awards $50,000 grant to Habitat Forsyth SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE Wells Fargo has awarded $50,000 to Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth County through its Priority Markets Grant Program. The gift was announced at the Oct. 20 dedication of Habitat's new cam pus at 1023 W. 14th St. The grant will be used for Habitat's home repair program and training curriculum. The Habitat repair program primarily assists low-income, non-Habitat home / . owners whose houses need significant repairs for problems that pose health and safety risks. Most homeowners served are senior citizens without the financial means or physical capacity to make repairs them selves. The training curriculum offers both classroom and hands-on courses on basic home maintenance and repairs to both Habitat and non-Habitat homeown ers.
