Church holds prayer walk to
raise funds to help children
BY TIMOTHY RAMSEY
THE CHRONICLE
Church ministries use many
methods to raise funds. The steward
ship committee of Antioch Christian
Church has found a way to not only
raise money but also help others get
some exercise and spread the word of
Christ all at once.
The "Souls For Christ Walk" was
started in 2010 as a way to raise funds
for the church's Vacation Bible
School. According to Liz Gilliam,
the walk is also a way for the church
to go out into the community and let
people know there are those in the
church who still care.
"I've been in walks before and
have seen the success they can have,
so I thought it would be a great idea
to have one here," said Gilliam. "Our
duty is to win souls for Christ, so as
the church we are supposed to win
souls in the community."

St. John C.M.E. brings Men's
and Women's days together
BY TIMOTHY RAMSEY
THE CHRONICLE
Men's Day and Women's Day are normally celebrated
on different days during different parts of the year. On
Sunday, June 26, St. John C.M.E. church decided to
observe both on the same Sunday after not having a Men's
or Women's Day for the past decade.
According, to the church, in 1907 Nannie Helen
Burroughs instituted the concept of Women's Day during
he Women's Convention of the National Baptist
Convention. It was an opportunity for women to learn to
speak for themselves. Additionally, it was a time to
;ncourage younger women to catch the torch and meet the
needs of the church and community.
Equally, Men's Day was a time to celebrate men and
appreciate men's contributions to family, church commu
nity and country. Men's Day in the black church is a
