The new soldiers, ranging in age from 5 to 14, celebrated their new assignment in God's Army with a Saturday trip to see the stage production of "Samson: The Last Judge" at the NarroWay Productions Christian Theater in Fort Mill, S.C. During the two-week camp, recruits worked in groups of four, each named for a lollipop flavor. Breakfast and lunch served in the FWBC mess hall ensured that the sol diers kept up their strength. Every day offered a rigorous schedule of activities that included lessons on the meaning and organization of the Bible, selected stories from the Bible, role plays of biblical events, and physical activities with questions and agility tasks to earn points. The recruits also visited the Charlotte Hawkins Brown Museum in Gibsonville, N.C. and wrote a booklet of per sonal psalms. The Bible Challenge closing event followed a game show format similar to Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, with parents and other family members in the audience. After a spirited contest, the final scores show that all the recruits competed enthusiastically and learned a lot in See Boot Camp on B6 Photo by Timothy Ramsey The married couples who participated in the outing from Holy Trinity Full Gospel Fellowship Center share experiences of married life. Church uses fellowship to strengthen marriages BY TIMOTHY RAMSEY THE CHRONICLE Maintaining a successful marriage in today's society can be strenuous and demanding. The Marriage Ministry of Holy Trinity Full Gospel Fellowship Center acknowledges this. To help couples in the congregation navigate through the ups and downs of marriage, the ministry conducts marriage outings to help strengthen the bond between husband and wife. TU? 4L.4 i iic iiiiui&uy icci& uiai through counsel with other mar ried couples, everyone in atten dance will be able to relate and understand that they are not alone in their walk through married life. Olympeia and Rick Howell, mar ried for 21 years, are head of the Marriage Ministry at Holy Trinity. "The biggest pleasure 1 get from this is knowing that what we've shared from our personal experiences have helped other couples save or enhance their marriage," Olympeia said. Rick followed up with, "Seeing the way God has brought us from the way that we were, I never thought we would be the head of this ministry, to put us in a position to share our lives with others and let them know God can take the impossible and make it possible. God is still working on us and we are able to share that work with oth ers at the same time." Olympeia used a candle with two scents as a metaphor for a marriage. She stated the two scents have to blend together like two people in a marriage. The years of marriage for the four couples in atten dance ranged from just over a year to 49 years. Richard Miller, pastor of Holy Trinity, and his wife, Ernestine, bestowed some helpful advice to the other couples who where there. They spoke about the role of husband and wire in the home as well as the importance of makingit through turbulent times that can occur during the first five years of marriage. "What has brought us this far is our relationship with God and with each other," Pastor Miller stated. "God put us together, and us learning how to appreciate and love one another is what caused us to make it 49 years." Mrs. Miller said that God is the glue that holds a mar riage together. She said that she will always apply the Word of the Lord to her life and marriage because it says, "If we do the Word, the Word in turn will hold us and keep See Marriage on B6 ''Seeing the way God has brought us from the way that we were." -RkkHoweU Safe in God's Love Elder Richard Wayne Wood Sunday School Lesson Lesson Scripture: Romans 8:28 -39 By the end of this les son, we will ?See our position in the plan of God for our safety ?Recognize that God is all-powerful and that His works and desires cannot be set aside or ruined by anyone ?Learn that we can rest in God's provision for our salvation and our eternal safety in Him Background: The time is about A.D. 57 in Corinth. Paul is writing this chapter or more especially this part of the chapter on his own experience as a Christian having experienced most of his references. Extreme opposition was prevalent during Paul's time. Since death might come at any time, He wanted the chuch in Rome to know of the certainty of their future state in heaven. Jesus promised C that when we look beyond present pain we find future heavenly glory. Lesson: Paul makes clear to the Roman church that there is a divinely intended outcome. He emphasized that the con trolling power of the spirit freed believers from the controlling power of sin and death. The intended outcome is that hardship in the life of believers brings about Christlike fruit in them. Romans 8:29-30 deals with the underlying process of the believers call to salva tion. Paul pointedly states that God chose in "eternity past" those who would become spiritually like Christ. The divine intent was that Jesus would be "exalted as first bom" (vs. 29 "preeminent one") among the redeemed. See Lenon on B6 ? i.
