Conference from page B3 Blake, who has been the president of the IMA for the past two years, says the two conferences have had a connection for years but once those individuals passed away, the relation ship between the confer ences did as well. He said the two conferences recent ly reconnected once again, and once he proposed the idea to the IMA everyone was on board. He says the goal is to involve both conferences in each other’s community endeavors and pool all resources to better serve the cities. He says this partnership can and will have a long-lasting impact. “I think when we have preachers that come togeth er, it sets a good example for the community,” Blake continued. “Often times whether we realize it or not, many preachers are fragmented. So when peo ple see us coming together maybe they will feel they can come together. We strip away all the denomi nations and we are just preachers.” Williams says after learning of the connection between the Durham and Winston-Salem confer ences in the past, he wanted to “reignite” the partner ship between the two. “With the volatile nature of our government and our country right now, one of the things I thought was fundamental was to have a pastoral caucus across the state so that when there are issues any where, they can call on clergy from around the state,” Williams said-. Williams says he looks forward to working not only with the IMA but also with other conferences from all over North Carolina. He says he knows the continued con nections will make a pro found impact not only in the community but also put pressure on elected offi cials to serve the communi ty as well. “What we are hoping for is a global vision,” Williams said. “We recog nize the challenge and the task ahead of us. When we stay united we can affect change in a major way, especially when you have pastors from all over the state descending on one community.” Lesson from page B3 outran Peter and got there first (verse 4). Though he got there first, he was reluctant to enter the tomb and merely looked in and saw the burial clothes lay ing neatly, but Peter, pulling up the rear and being bold as usual entered the tomb to get a good look and saw the “napkin” from His head laying in a sepa rate place from the linen clothes that wrapped His body. The wrappings were not cut or in disarray: they were folded neatly. All this is noted to again dispel the thoughts of the body being stolen (verses 5-7}. After Peter’s boldness, John fol lowed suit and entered see ing the clothes he believed that Christ was risen (verse 8). Though Christ had dis cussed with the disciples that He would rise, John states, “For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead”. (Psalm 16:10). The lesson concludes with Peter and John leaving the tomb and going home. “They didn’t have all the answers, but they definitely under stood something unique and wonderful had taken place.” (UMI Annual Commentary 2016-2017). For Your Consideration: After outrunning Peter to get to the tomb, why do you think John stopped outside allowing Peter to enter first? Should the apostles have been sur prised at an empty tomb? Life’s Application: We are getting away from celebrating Easter and are now celebrating Resurrection Sunday. New outfits and colored eggs are still popular. I may ware a new necktie myself, but I will also think about the true meaning of Jesus’ Resurrection. I’m sure also that there will be an oppor tunity for me and for you to witness to someone who doesn’t know or maybe needs a reminder that our salvation is connected to Jesus and that empty tomb.
