THE SUCCESS OF THE
GINGHAM FROCKS
New York. June 23. If you are
are bound for the country or a sum
mer vacation, by all means let your
trunk contain one. If not more uf
the charming ginham frock hat ev
erybody Is Interested in this pvmmer.
From very early in h aon
I there was much talk of these ging
' ham dr eases. , Society wore them at
Palm Beach in the early spring and
1 Immediately their success was assur
ed. There Is every kind of gingham
. to be had this summer, beginning
with small checks in white and col
1 ora, of which blue and white, and
, pink and white are perhaps the. most
charming. Then there are the larg
' er checks and fascinating plaids in
which several colors are introduced.
; Some of the pretty combinations are
yellow, white and Hue: green, red
. Oyster. White Lln?n trress TrlmrrKU
j With Embroidery,
and white, and white, black and
brown. There are also some brown
and white, and blue and white plaids
which are wonderfully attractive.
These frocltg are amart for all sorts
of occasions. They are not strictly
for morning use but they seem to fit
In nicely for almost any Informal af
fair. They are made up in ouch
charming, ways, it is no wonder wo
men are eo enthusiastic about them.
On their first introduction the and
checked frir.ghams were almost al
ways combined with p'-oin Kinrjham,
usually in one of the colors of the
plaid or check. The plain gingham
was used either for plpinrr and col
lars and cuffs or for maki'iur a por
tion of the dress in those "half and
half" combinations which were so
popular. These combinations are
still seen, but very often gingham
is now replaced by plain voile, and
sometimes It is orcandie that is com
bined with gingrham. but this is main
ly for the dainty collars and cuffs
which fra with these drssses.
. Plain blue gingham combined with
black and white check is an unus
ual combination hut has been attrac
tively i.sed with a touch of red cross
ntitrh embroidery on the black and
white check which is employed for
trimming.
The Shirtwaist Irrrtis.
The shirtwaist dress is one of the
summer novelties which has been re
ceived with much favor. These dres,
es are rather plain in effect. The
waist is attached to the skirt, and the
