North Carolina is cr state that de servos as much respect, and says as little about it, as nny Siatejinl the .Union. It is fashionable among; some of her sou thern neighbors to speak disparagingly of her, and one of them has even been ex cruciating enough to compare her to Rip Van Winkle, but with abundantly less noise than her near rieijjhborsi and with much les freqdent appeals to the " chi valry" o'i.
