For the first time in several years
the Jurors last week had to go
home without receiving pay for
their labors. We learn that at
a meeting of : the physicians of
Wayne county on last Tuesday it
was agreed to form a county Med

the right . direction. , If they will
organize such a society and have
monthly orquarterly meetirsatl

of views with an occasional essay
from some member, it would un
doubtedly benefit them Five
years ago, C. F. R. Kornegay,
County Treasurer, turned over to
his successor, (if our memory
serves us right) about $6,ooo in
cash and the county out of debt.
To-day the county is in debt how

thousand dollars, and county or

at a discount of from ten to fifteen
per cent. GoldsborsBulletin.
At Monmouth, Ills., Mrs. J. W.
Bailey cut her daughter's throat
and then her own. She is sup
posed to have been crazy. In the
mother's pocket the following note
was found;
"I believe it will be better with
my child after death. It is best
to sacrifice my life ior her. Lo
not allow mv dear husband or chil
dren to see me after death. Do
not mourn for me.,
The family consisted of three
sons and one other daughter.

Any one who watches carefully
the drift of opinion and events
among the negro leaders, cannot
well fail to discern an increasing
purpose on their part to force
social equality. We think the ten
dency of Fred. Douglass's speech
at Louisville is in that direction.
