We were yery pleasantly su.r-
prised at finding a ham of meat
upon our desk .when we entered
the office this morning. J A myste
rious note was found atteched to
i -
the ham, which read as follows:
Please accept the ham of bacon
from my bachelor's - den, as a
token of my " regards." Such
nice .tokens of remembrance are
quite rare, and one hardly knows
how to give evidences of their
apprecratidn' f for - such favors.
May the esteemed donor live a
long and peaceful life, and may
his smoke house never lack , the
presence' of ' ifitie hams" and "choice
bacon; and when he, .shall . have
finished his" career of usefulness
and kindness in this life, may his
spirit find a happy home in that
upper and better temple.

Dear Sirs: I receive the daily
Pilot' regularly' from Culler
post office, which is carefully and
well kept. I am interested with
some articles in each issue. The
little sheet tells there is con
sideration, scholarship, energy
and pluck about the editors. Such
requisits are necessary "to back
the publication of a valuable pub
lic journal. Very respectfully,
1 N. A. B.
