1. Rewlted, That we have unseated confidence in,

yol are we equally resolved to uphold and defend the
integrity of our National Union ntfuinst all assaults
by wlicwoever made, and from whatsoever quarter

Union depends that Independence and Liberty w hich
we possess, and which were the work of the joint
' counsel and efTurtd ; of the common dangers, suffer
ings and success ; of our Revolutionary fathers: and
which we arc bound, by every consideration of grati
tude to them ; of interest and honor to ourselves, and
duty to our posterity ; to maintain aud defend.
4. Reaohed, That we believe a large 'portion of
the American people desire the restoration of harmo
ny and concord to our country, by a fair and honora
ble adjustment of the agitating questions connected
with the Institution of Domestic Slavery and they
demand that their peace aud -comfort shall be no lung
er disturbed by keeping open, aa capital for dema
gogues and fanatics, those delicate and dangerous
- questions.
5. Renohed, That we approve, and believe a large
majority of the people of North Carolina do aj prove
the general plan of the Adjustment jepoiled to the
Senate of the United States from the Coihwittee of
Thirteen ; aud desire that, with such amendments
as our friends in Congress may deem neccssar A just
and proper, it showld be adopted, and become the
law of the hind,

emies, he will prove himself to be what he has al
ways been, a true friend to his country ; that he will

ment will be conservative and patriotic.
7. WiisniiAfl, A large number of the people of the
State, without distinction ol political party, have in'
dicated a wish to have the State Constitution amend
d, so as to .give to votersfor the House of Commons
the right to vote also for Senators: A.vu whf.iieas, it
is a fundamental principle of popular government, de
clared in our Bill of Rights, that all political power
it Tested in, and derived from, the People only :
Resolved, in the opinion of this Convention, that
the Legislature should adopt some mode, in accord
ance with the provisions of the constitution, by which
the tense of a majority of the People may be clearly
ascertained, and their Wishes carried out, in refer
ence to said proposed amendment of the Constitution.

Treasurer, Comptroller, Secretary of State, Justices

the Legislature should also adopt some mode, in ac

9. Resolved, That the official conduct of bis Excel,
lency, CHARLES MANLY, during his present
term of service, meets with the hearty approval of
this Whig Convention; and we should fail of our
whole duty to our constituents, end of justice to an
ble, a faithful, and a patriotic puhlic officer, if we
should withheld onr thanks from one who has devot
ed himself to the preservation of the honor and the
interestsof North Carolina.
The North Carolina Rail Road.
THE General Commissioners of the North Car
olina Rail road, hereby announcethat at a Meet
ing held by them at Chapel Hill on the Sth and 6th
days of June ISS0.it was ascertained, from addi
tional returns made by the-local Commissioners,
that the sum of one Million of dollars had been
anbscribed in the capital slock of the said Compa
ny: and the first instalment, of live dollars per
ahare.on the said sum of one million of dollars, to
wit: the suni'nf fifty ihonsand dollars, having been
received by the Treasurer of this Board, the eaid
Co'mniiaViiineM preferred and certified duplicate de
clarations of the foregoing facts, with the names
of the subscribers, ana tlio amounts by them re
spectively subscribed appended thereunto, and have
caused one of the said declarations to be deposited
in the office nf the Secretary of Slate according
to the requirements of the Sih section of the act of
the General Assembly ratified the intn day ol Jan
nary 1849, entitled "An act to incorporate the N
Carolina Railroad Company."

HAVING taken the House recently fitted up in the
centre of the village and near the Depot, I am
prepared to accommodate travellers.
As I have giveu reference on my card, I will only
remark that strict attention shall be paid to my sta
bles, and those leaving horses with me, (which shall
be kepi on reasonable terms.) need apprehend nothing
as to their treatment or being used. 1 also-keep the
stage office for the West. Meals always ready upon
the arrival of the cars, and persons conveyed in hacks,
buggies, or on horse back, to any of the surrounding
country.
Persons wishing packages forwarded by the stage,
by having them directed to my care shall always be
promptly attended to
