N0RT1IERX ITEMS. The Yankee Congress. In "thej Tan tee Con gress the most radical spirit has been minifest. Iiickmau of Pennsylvania, has introduced k bill to organize "negro regiments." The features, of this proposition are, little singular. f ; It flutho'rizes the President to organize regiments of -colofed men, not exceeding one 'thousand in umber,'' giving authority to uniform them in some distinctive manner, and arm ihein for a term of seven years or " less. The privates to receive six and a half dilars per month, and the same allowancfe for clothingan'd ra tions as white soldiers. Non-commissionedi officers rto have same pay as same grades in regular army. Stedtaan, aged nearly 19 years, a member of Capt Jones, compabv, G., 48th Regiment. N. C. Troops. Having been missing for some weeks after the battle, his widowed moth er and family were in deep distress concerning him. Hear ing nc thing satisfactory, for some time, they suffered in tensely in mind; unj;il a .letter came to his another from a kind lady in- Maryland, saying she had seen him in the General ilospital of Frederick city, where he was well cf rcd for and kindly treated, suffering very little with a wout d in the toe, that tie was doing well and in fine spirits. He' desired his mother should) know it. This welcome in telligence relieved the minds of the familygreatly: They enjoyei the thought but a short time ; when a letter came fr.m a wounded soldier, who had just returned home from Fredeiick, out of the general Hospital, bearing the sad and unexpected news of his death. - Also another lelte'r came i'rom that same kind benevolent lady, givingthe particulars of his death, saying he suffered' much, spoke f his mother many times, often thought she was by his side. . That 'while there he gained many warm friends, who now mingle their tears with the oereaved. She as sured the family that every possible attention was shown him, nt pains spared to alleviate his sufferings whatever ; but as God gave him, he saw proper to take him away ; she er closed a lock of his hair to his mother. His re mains were carefully burried. in Mt. Oliret Cemetry, a most beautiful public burying; ground, and th spot mark ed. I is brother John -was instantly killed on the 1st July last, i a the engagement of "(Malvern Hill," -near Rich mond, and burried on the battle field.. Thus has a widowed mother been bereft of two much -loved ; md dutiful sens, who offered ip and lost their lives fortht freedom of their countrv; The body of one now. lies mouldering to its mother dtist neath Virginia soil, the other in Maryland, there to await the finale resurrection, then t ) appear before the Judge of all the earth.
